AP Blackout on Saturday, do you go or not?

I am curious as a first time AP holder (and only for 2 months) if AP's typically pay the $30 and go in on a Saturday, or if you hang and do something different? Does an AP Blackout day effect park attendance or not? We are going 5/9-5/12 and I have not decided if we should spend the money or not and go in. I was leaning towards not since Saturdays usually are busier......

If you are planning to upgrade, then I would spend the $30 on a blockout day ticket. The only time we have purchased and blockout day ticket and not upgraded was when our passes were about to expire!

I asked this question about a week ago cause I go in june and there are 5 out of 7 days during the week which is a blockout day which kinda sucks but my response was that annual passes are to control the crowd levels, but it actually gets busier during the block out days then regular block out days. This is when the park actually sells more one day passes. People try to stay away when they hear its gonna be a block out day because of the crowd levels.

I guess since this will be your last day there you could always make the decision then if you want to pay for it. If you haven't done all you wanted or you want to do more then you could go in. I guess that was obvious!!

I personally would pay to go in if you were leaving town on the Sunday so you had a full day at DL. If you had to leave later in the day or Saturday evening then I probably wouldnt and just tour DTD and the hotels that day.

$30 isn't bad, but if you think you'll be going a few blackout days throughout the year, why not upgrade?

I am faced with the same thing this year and was last year too. Last year we paid the $30, it was just one day and we only had five full days so I wanted to go. This year I am not. I have 9 full park days (well 8 actually). So what I am going to do is have a character breakfast, shop at World of Disney, hang out by the pool and maybe have dinner at RFC. All things I was going to do anyway, this way we can do them when we won't be using up valueable park time! If you feel you have things you still want to do, I would go ahead and pay and enjoy another day at Disneyland! If you think there are other days you will want to upgrade you might want to go with a Premium AP to avoid that and get the deeper discounts on dining (used to be 15% with a Premium vs. the 10% of a deluxe). Amy, your plans on Sat. sound like what I was planning on doing. I just wanted to hear what others do on a blockout day. I don't want to upgrade to a PAP as this is the only time we are planning on going during a blockout day. We live in WA and are planning another trip in Sept. when we have no blockout dates.

In a way I am actually really looking forward to our non park day! Sounds like you will have a Disney day just like we are. And it will be the first time in my Disney history I go to bed without tired feet! Have a really fun trip!

The only time I pay to go in on a blackout day is if there is something special going on that I want to be there for. Like the AWE red carpet this May. Or a few years ago there used to be ABC Soap Opera Weekends. Otherwise I plan to go to Knott's Berry Farm, Six Flags Magic Mountain, or just a Downtown Disney/pool day.

In making the decision, I also look at the total cost per day with the AP. We had Deluxe APs (w/DVC discount) last year and paid for block out days twice. I think we went a total of 11 days for about $260, so less than $24 per day.
This year, we have So Cal passes and plan to pay for a block out day this Sat. At that point, we will have spent about $167 for 5 days, so about $33 per day. Not as good as last year, but not bad.
