AP and having a package question??

Forgive me but teh AP seems very confusing as to how it works.

We are set up for 12/18-26 @ POR we have a 7 day hopper and are on DDP.

I thought of getting a AP if I will save money on our stay, however I hear I can not use a AP discount if I have a package.

Is there any way around this entire bit??

Someone said if i get another ticket basic ticket I can do it but not sure if that is a smart move or not??

Anyone have anyidea what my best move might be on this?? We could go next year if the AP prices are good as I have seen in the past.
How would I go about getting the AP rate if I don't have the pass until I get there???

What is the usual AP rate for moderate resorts? and whats the rate if its a package usually ?? Our package cost so far is 3600.00.

Hi!

It seems like you could upgrade your 7 day Park Hopper to an AP when you get to WDW.

This would not get you access to the AP room rate for this trip, but if you plan on taking another trip within the year, your park tickets would be covered by the AP and you may get an AP room rate. You may not though.

Even if you never get the AP room rate, if you plan on going to Disney 10 or more days in one year, the AP saves you money at least on park admission.
