Have you ever known something, but for some reason it still hadn't really soaked in?:rotfl: I knew AP holders could get the DDP without buying park tickets, but for some reason was still thinking it was for AP discounted rooms only and that there was a 3 day minimum stay. I have a reservation with one day MYW tickets, and DDP at CSR for Dec 13th-20th using a 40% PIN code. I called yesterday to add the 12th to it, knowing I was going to have to pay rack rate for it. While the CM was adding the extra day he asked why I had just one day tickets for the 13th-20th, so I told him I had an AP. He asked if I wanted to add the DDP for the 12th. I told him I didn't think I could because it wasn't an AP discounted room and was only for one night. He informed me it didn't have to be. AP holders can still get the DDP even if they are paying rack rate and even if the ressie is for one night only. He did say though that I still had to have the one day tickets for Dec 13th-20th, because tickets were part of that pkg, in order to get the DDP and it didn't matter if I was an AP holder.:confused3 I guess I'm a little slow.:rotfl:

Okay, I know there's no minimum number of nights for the AP/DDP package - that only applies to promotions (e.g. Free Dining);

And I'm relatively certain room rate discounts don't come into play as long as one is paying for the dining plan. You can't stack discounts, but since you'd be paying for the DDP, there's no stacking going on.

OP, yes I knew you could add dining to rackrate rooms and yes I knew there is not a minimum (we like to do one day AP rate, then move to DVC and get the dining on the one night AP room--actually this works great for delux as we get the mug and 3 TS meals and divide them between checkin and checkout day, then take the mug with us to the DVC resort the next day!)

However, you booked with the same code as us, the 40% PIN code. I figured, like you, that this is not really an AP rate. This was a promotion PIN that was sent to AP holders. I too considered this a package if I wanted to add dining, so did not add dining as I didn't want to buy the 1 day ticket.

Uh Oh! I've got too many trips in the planning stages.:rotfl: I had to go back and edit the month in my first post. Sorry! My Dec trip is the one I used the 40% PIN code for Dec 13th-20th, then called yesterday to add the 12th, booking at rack rate and adding dining. My Sept 26th-Oct 4th trip I used the AP rate that came out a couple of weeks ago. It gave me 40% off on weeknights and 42% off on weekends, so round up being a better deal than my Dec trip. My Dec trip I had to buy one day tickets for, but my Sept trip I did not, since it was an AP rate.

No minimum stay and you don't have to have an AP discount to buy the AP plus dining package.

The 3 night minimum appears to apply only to the free dining package.

Hello-Im sorry to hijack the thread,
but im looking into options for my honeymoon next year, and AP tickets may be the way for us to go as we are staying at a DVC resort for 7 days, then staying at GF for 3 days (hoping to use AAA discount)
FOr my dvc part I know i can get the dining plan through that.

However I am wondering, if i get AP's and book a room only at GF using a AAA rate would i be able to get a dining plan through AP without having to get tickets? :confused3 or no because im going to be using a rate?

Also im going september 19-30 2010, so there are no promotions out for that time anyways right now :rotfl:

I found out I could add the DDP to my room only ressie and I was happy. Until I found out that it was $38 per adult per day. Boma is my fav restaurant, so I'll use that as an example. Boma is $26.99+tax for dinner and beverage. If I get a cocktail, I have to pay extra, just as I would with the DDP, so I'm left with $12. I would not be spending more than $12 on a counter service meal each day. When I totaled up what we generally spend on food for a long weekend and also the cost for the AP DDP, we would save approx $24 paying ourselves. Maybe I'll add the DDP on trips where I know we'll do a lot of TS (like in Dec for my birthday) but otherwise, it isn't worth it to us.

I would suggest totaling up your food costs (the menu prices are listed here on DIS) for what you generally spend against the cost of the DDP.

There is no way to add the dining plan to a room only reservation. If you can get the AAA discount on a room/dining AP package, then you can book it with the discount. But you would have to book it as a package; if the discount applies only to room-only reservations, you can't book it with dining whether you have an annual pass or not.

It has nothing to do with whether or not you have a discount- it will depend on whether the discount rate can be applied to a package reservation.

If you have APs you are eligible for AP room discounts, which can be applied to room/dining packages and are often better than the AAA discount. But you won't know until they're released what dates they'll be available for.

The cost of the basic dining plan is $39.99 per adult per night, not per day (this is an important distinction as most guests stay more days than they do nights)

OH i get it now, i dont know how i got so confused :headache: i think i need to step away from my planning lol

i sshould have just stuck to my original plans then i wouldnt be spinning myself in circles

thanks for clarifying and helping me out!
