I've had AOL for years, and have never, ever had a problem. I love it. I've dealt with customer service a few times, and they were friendly and easy to deal with.

OK...now that I read that I will tell you my story.
(long story short) We signed up for three years AOL for a gift card from Circuit City. Hey, we needed an internet service and could use a new microwave so no problem right? Well for the first year and half, no. But then....for some unknown reason....They decided to shut down all local numbers in our area. My option was to use a long distance number (at a 10cent per minute to my long distance bill) or use their 800 number (for a per minute fee) All at an enormous expense. I tried to get out of my contract. NO GO....I had "agreed" to pay them for three years. If I quit then I would have to pay about 80% of my gift card back. It was cheaper to just pay them their monthly fee and get another dial up service. Fifty bucks a month for stinkin dial up. I felt like they were the ones who didn't fulfill their contract. I was soooo mad, I tried to keep my composure on the phone to their "customer service" (HA!!!) rep. She told me, "You don't have to yell" I was soooo angry. I said, "I'm not yelling....THIS IS YELLING!!!" She hung up on me. I don't blame her. I was utterly fuming.
After I calmed down I called back.
I asked when my contract was up.
The DAY my contract was up. I called and cancelled. When they started on their crap, I told them that I was part of a class action law suit, the Better Business Bureau had started in my state for what they did to the people in this area. That shut her up.
Then I went to the bank and closed my checking acct and started a new one so that they could not automatically bill me another dime.
I would not touch AOL with a ten foot pole and I would tell everyone who asks me to stay far far away from them. And DO NOT agree to a contract of any length of time. I paid them $25 bucks a month for 18 month and they providing nothing.
