AOL for FREE if you have BYOA or Broadband

I know ALOT of you never venture over to the DIS Budget Board, so I wanted to repost this here for anyone who has AOL & uses a different provider. Save yourself some $. I did.

I too have had AOL for almost 10 years now. I like it and never have had any problems with it at all.

I called and told her I wanted to cancel and sure enough I got the deal!
That's so cool. I'm going to have to call my parents and let them know about it.

Thanks for the tip! I've had AOL for almost 10 years, and I've never had problems. We tried some others and we've always come back to AOL.

I just called. The hardest part was understanding the rep with the thick Indian accent.

I asked to cancel my account b/c I had cable access and he started to sound like he was actually going through with it.....a REAL cancellation....

So I mentioned "I really hate the thought of giving up my email address, but it seems silly to pay for AOL when I have high speed access."

To which he said "well, I think you're going to be a very happy lady when I tell you about our new plan....."

And I got it just as described.

My only irk is why can't AOL just DO it for everyone. Why do we have to find out about this on the DIS?

From what I understand its just the web based stuff. I think I would not be able to get to the message boards I use on AOL if I change.

No, above post is incorrect. It is NOT just giving you access to web based stuff.

There is no change in service. Just that you are paying $0. I still access the web thru AOL software. Still use AOL email. And I'm still using all of AOL member features. You can still access AOL message boards if you want to.

The only difference you will notice is you won't get a charge on your credit card anymore. Oh, & you won't have any dial-up backup if your DSL goes down. But who cares.
