AoA Cars Suite vs Wilderness Lodge

AoA for the whole stay. Who wants to pack and unpack especially with the Wee ones. They will LOVE seeing their favourite characters around the resort. That's what made "our" trip was to see their little faces light up with glee at the sight of the giant icons. Like the previous posters said, you will have plenty of trips to take them to the other resorts. It's a short stay and they are only little once.

I would do the suite. Mostly because of the sleeping situation. When my kids were that age they needed a lot of sleep and they slept better in a separate room. It was so nice to be able to put the kids to bed early and watch TV or unwind with a glass of wine in the next room. As my kids got a bit older, we started sharing a room and it worked out fine.

100%. We have only done suites at Disney for this very reason as well. We have stayed in the Nemo suites at AoA and it was a good experience overall.

Wilderness Lodge isn't going anywhere. Do AoA now while he's little and into Cars. I wish this had been around when my car fanatic son was little.

I would not do a split stay for 4 nights. Packing and moving will take up a lot of your precious time. My preference of resort in terms of comfort and convenience, would be WL. We stayed at AoA, in a Nemo suite, the year it opened when my DS was 4. We both LOVED the design and oversize characters when we first walked in, but, honestly, by the second day, we were both over it and we were stuck in a really loud, uncomfortable, inconvenient resort. The addition of the Skyliner will make it better, IMHO, but the quality of comfort and amenities simply doesn't compare to what you are going to find at WL. Personally, I would consider staying at WL and taking the Skyliner over to visit AoA on one of your EP or DHS days so your kids can walk around and see the outdoor Cars sculptures and theming. Best of both worlds.

I guess this sounds selfish, but I tend to lean towards going with what is most convenient for the parents / what the parents like best, not the kids. My kids are happy anywhere. We’ve done AoA and they love it. We’ve done WL and they love it. But I like WL better - so we go to WL. 😎
That’s my view too. Take em to the cars show at HS to see the characters, and get the more relaxing WL resort stay for yourself. They won’t know there is such a thing as a cars suite if you don’t tell em ;)

My perspective is just different because my baby is now in college. I miss being able to do all that little kid stuff, and wowing them with things I know they'll love at Disney. Those wonder years just go way too fast.

We stayed at AoA Cars suite in 2019 when our kids were 5 and almost 3 and wife was 30 weeks pregnant. We loved the space and the theming. We were looking to be immersed in all things Disney for the kids and the room did not disappoint. There was also plenty of space for us. We are returning to Disney this June with a split stay, staying at AoA suites and then to Kidani 1 bedroom for all the theming. Our thoughts on this is... Since we are at Disney and kids are young, we should give them a disney experience. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems like the deluxe places give luxury, but it doesn't scream Disney. We may explore these options when kids are older.

I find that all the resorts, except for a few, are super fun and super Disney. If that makes sense. Lol! It’s sooooo hard to choose a resort. But with kids I would always go for a over the top themed value. I personally love them!!

Not sure I agree there. By that logic, World Showcase, Animal Kingdom, and heck, even most of MK (e.g., Main Street, Frontierland, Adventureland) don't "scream disney" either because they emphasize a transporting immersive experience over cartoon characters. But for kids, that theming often creates just as much if not more wonder than seeing a bunch of characters everywhere they look. What "screams" disney to us is the sense of magic, not the characters--when we go to Epcot all three of our kids, they spend hours obsessed with the maze in England or the little train village in Germany--but the Nemo ride is one and done for them. When my 5 year old talks about Disney, he never talks about a ride or character experience, he tells me he wants to see the "castle hotel" (grand floridian) again, ride the monorail, and go for a swim at the "volcano pool" (at the Poly). I've shown him pictures of Wilderness Lodge since that is where we are staying next time and he is really excited about the waterfall, geyser, boat to MK, and oddly (because kids pick up on the little things) he is fascinated by the totem pole he saw in the lobby in a youtube video.

AoA suites are the best! We moved to one after being really disappointed with CB and now we just can't ever see staying in a studio again - fair warning. We loved just about everything about AoA, but I will say I was disappointed with the Big Blue Pool. It was crowded, we couldn't get a chair, and it doesn't have a slide. As long as you are OK with that, I would definitely stay in a Cars suite while your kids are so into it. That won't last forever. One other thing to consider; the quick service food court in AoA is arguably the best on property. If you want a sit-down meal you are better off at WL, but if you are planning on QS meals AoA is a clear winner, plus you get a little bit of a kitchen in the suite.

As for WL - on our first on-property stay we chose between WL and Port Orleans. We REALLY wanted to stay at WL, but then we kept looking at the price difference. It was over $100/night more, and this was back when you could stay in a really nice place just about anywhere outside WDW for about that much. We just couldn't do it. Now, I think I'd pick POR if I was staying in a studio. It's quiet, the layout is awesome, and the pool is my favorite on-property (Stormalong Bay excluded).

Me too! And WL rooms have balconies so parents will have a space to relax with maybe a wine or beer while the kids are sleeping.
I’d stay at WL for all 4 days. Doing a split will take away a lot of park time moving, and you won’t have enough time to enjoy either resort. Save the split stays for longer trips.

I am a deluxe resort lover, but we absolutely loved the Family Suite at the AOA. Our kids were younger when we stayed there, so the separate room for parents was great. Two full bathrooms was a big help, too. We enjoyed the deluxe resorts much more when the kids got older.

The only reason to stay at a Cars Suite at AOA is if you have five or more people and at least two members of your family is obsessed with Cars. The theming is great. The room and resort itself, not so much.

Wilderness Lodge is nice but the pool is subpar, frankly. Nice waterfall, looks great, etc. but flat out the pool still isn’t great. They do have a nice splash area for kiddies and the resort overall is very nice. And the lunch spot out by the lake is amazing.

When is thus trip for? I know they were going to refurb the pool at AoA but don’t know the timeline if it overlaps your trip

We stayed at WL our last trip and I absolutely loved it, and my boys were 7 and 3. But for your situation, I would choose AoA. It's a short stay, they will be so thrilled with those rooms, and hopefully the skyliner will be running again. Stay at WL on your next trip (and make it over Xmas!)
