Day 2 - Friday 24th

We were both awake at 5am, having had a healthy 8 and a half hours sleep. It’s the latest we’ve woken up on our first morning. We’re normally awake at 3! Andy showered while I rang my mum to let her know we’d arrived safely. Then it was time for our first morning ritual - breakfast at Denny’s followed by a trip to Walmart to spend some serious dosh!

At Denny’s, I had the French toast slam which was eggs, 2 bacon strips, 2 sausage links and 2 huge pieces of French toast, butter and syrup. It was absolutely delicious. Hubby had the corned beef hash platter which he loved. The cost of our breakfast was $20 including a good tip.

We were in Walmart by 8 and it was quite empty. We had a nice wander around, buying toiletries, a cooler, beer and diet coke with lime cans for me, to mention a few things. It’s obviously not a good time of year for flip flops - all the women’s flip flops were in large and XL sizes as were most of the mens but Andy managed to find me a medium pair which fit me fine. We left $124 poorer.

Andy had decided that he hated our car because the brakes were terrible and my seatbelt kept throwing hissy fits and not working. He dropped me off at Pop Century so I could unpack and get sorted while he went to Alamo at the Dolphin hotel. They didn’t have any cars left there and they sent him to the office near the Magic Kingdom. He came back with the same make of car but this time it was a snazzy 2 door.

I had unpacked everything and found time to have another shower and get dressed again. We headed straight for Downtown Disney so we could look round and get an annual pass for hubby. We parked at Marketplace and as hubby was hungry, we headed straight for Earl of Sandwich. Hubby had the Hawaiian BBQ hot sandwich which contained ham, BBQ sauce and pineapple and I had the Frenchy again which was ham and hot melted brie with mustard. Both sandwiches were amazing and hubby was really glad I’d suggested eating there as I’d enjoyed it so much when I’d eaten there in July. We both had the Hawaiian banana and strawberry smoothie and I also had a green salad with blue cheese dressing. The cost of our lunch was about $17.

From here we went to Guest Relations which is between Team Mickey and the DVC stand. Hubby bought his annual pass (the least painful $403 that he’s ever spent he said) and then we headed for the Pin Trading centre. We bought a Passholder pin from 2003, some pin backs, a Space Mountain pin, and some others. We then headed for Once Upon a Toy so I could show hubby the toy monorail in all it’s glory. I love the pieces you can buy to go around it and I fell in love with the Walt Disney signs one. It’s an extra $30 and I may have to indulge by the time we go home.

We didn’t fancy going into any more shops as our feet were aching slightly so we headed back to our room. We were supposed to go to Universal Studios to ride Hulk and Popeye and pick up our annual passes but I made the mistake of lying down and I fell asleep. Hubby soon joined me and we woke up 2 hours later, feeling very refreshed. We noticed we had a voicemail message flashing on our phone so we listened to it. It was from the hotel staff warning us that the hurricane my be imminent and if we had any questions, to ask them. I then switched on the TV and put the Weather Channel on. Unfortunately, Jeanne has turned around and is due to hit Orlando with high winds of about 100mph within the next 24-36 hours. Hmm. Scary stuff or what. We realised that we hadn’t bought a torch when we’d been in Walmart so decided to pop into Publix at some point to get one.

We then got dressed and headed to Chilis for an early dinner. We were seated in Chilis by 5pm and the restaurant was very quiet. We shared boneless shanghai wings (of course). Andy had his chicken ranch sandwich again but substituted the fries for awesome blossom strings and I had the classic fajitas steak and chicken combo. The food was gorgeous as usual and we had 3 drinks each - they are so quick with the refills here.

From Chilis we drove to Publix and stopped for some more supplies. We bought some water and a torch and batteries just in case. From Publix, we headed to Magic Kingdom. As it was gone 6pm, we were able to get a space right at the front by the Transportation and Ticket Center which was fab. The monorail was a couple of minutes walk from here. We decided to take the monorail instead of the ferryboat. Andy used his annual pass for the first time. Mine didn’t work, it kept coming up access denied. Instead of sending me to guest services though, the CM let me in which was very nice of her. Once inside, we took that familiar walk through the tunnel out to Main Street USA.

As we came out of the tunnel, we heard the train approaching Main Street station so we decided to take it. It just so happened that it was the last train of the night. It was 7pm. As we stopped at the Frontierland station, we noticed that Splash Mountain was a walk on. Hubby decided he could wait to ride it so we continued on to Mickey’s Toontown Fair. We took the path through to Tomorrowland. I love this path, it’s lovely and only takes about 5 minutes to walk through to Tomorrowland. It brings you out by Space Mountain.

There was a fair queue for Space Mountain so we carried on walking. We headed straight for the Tomorrowland Transit Authority - my favourite ride. It was a walk-on as usual. Andy wanted to film it so when we got to the top, he asked the CM which car was the front car as he wanted to video it. She was very nice and let us wait for the front car. Bless him, he filmed the whole ride for me. As you pass the Stitch Adventure ride, you can really hear Stitch well now. I can’t wait for it to open.

Next stop, the Carousel of Progress as hubby has never seen it. The last 2 trips we’ve made together, it’s been closed. Hubby wanted to film it but the CM wouldn’t let him. He carried on filming after the “please no smoking, eating, drinking, videotaping” message, then the CM interrupted as the show started and repeated the no videotaping message so hubby put the camcorder away. I guess they really don’t want footage of it leaving the park! Andy really enjoyed the show.

By the time we came out it was nearly 8pm. Buzz Lightyear was a walk on as it was time for Wishes so on we went. I love this ride, it’s such good fun. Hubby beat me - he scored over 82k compared to my pathetic 13,500. As we came out from Buzz, we could hear and see Wishes. We decided to head to Fantasyland and try and ride Winnie the Pooh and do Mickey’s PhilharMagic but Pooh was closed. I expected it to be open as I was able to ride it with no queues whilst Wishes had been on back in July but it wasn’t to be. We watched the last few minutes of Wishes, which was spectacular. It really got me choked up and tearful. We figured that PhilharMagic would probably be shut if Pooh was so we headed back towards Main Street USA with the swarm of people. There were strollers everywhere.

We had to stop at Casey’s Corner for a hotdog and a drink. Their hotdogs are the BEST! We got in there just in time before it got really busy. We found a seat outside to share our small feast. As soon as we’d sat down, music started and the Kiss Goodnight started. It was really cute. I love the way the Castle changes colour. The bit that really choked me up was hearing Mickey say “See you real soon” at the end. We then took a stroll down Main Street. We had a really enjoyable evening at Magic Kingdom. We took the resort monorail back to the Transportation and Ticket Center as the queue for the Express Monorail was coming back down towards the entrance. We managed to get on the 2nd monorail and quite a few people got off at the Contemporary Resort. After a short walk from the T&TC, and I quickly stopped for a bottle of soda from one of the shops, we were back at our car.

15 minutes later, we were back at Pop Century. We went straight to Classic Concoctions for drinks.

Hubby walked back to our room and grabbed my laptop and one of our mugs. I decided to push the boat out and have an alcoholic drink. I tried the frozen strawberry daiquiri - yum yum! At first, all I could taste was strawberry but as the cocktail melted I could really taste the rum. I’d definitely have this again - just one got me a bit light-headed. After that, I went back to diet coke. Hubby stuck to Coors Light. We stayed at the bar until it closed at midnight and then we headed back to our room. Andy carried on drinking Coors Light and we watched the Weather Channel. I snacked on Ritz crackers and easy cheese. They are saying that Jeanne could hit Orlando tomorrow night - eek. Ah well, I think we’re prepared! We were in bed just after 1am.

Ann,
You do write a tasty report. As always, it's fun to go along with you and Andy. Thanks, Susan

Another great report, Anz :)

May I ask a few questions? (Well I'm going to ask them, hopefully you will answer ;)

1. Can of Coke with Lime??? Is this like the Coke with Lemon we've started seeing in the UK, but with lime instead (ask a silly question...!) and are there any other flavours??

2. Which Chilli's do you visit when staying onsite and is it easy to get to? (You've made me desperate to go there you know :teeth:)

3. Are the hot sarnies at the Earl Of Sandwich actually hot or just warm?

4. Did you buy the monorail?????!!!!

Question, questions.... ;)

Cheers

Karen

thanks Susan and Kaylee :D I love writing these reports so it's great that they're are enjoyed.

Karen, of course I shall answer your questions :teeth:

1. Can of Coke with Lime??? Is this like the Coke with Lemon we've started seeing in the UK, but with lime instead (ask a silly question...!) and are there any other flavours??

Yep, diet coke with lime - I can't remember if they did normal coke with lime but the diet coke is lovely. They do it in bottles too. It's very refreshing. I personally am not fond of the lemon diet coke but the lime is totally different. If you get a chance to try it then do. Apart from the lemon and vanilla flavours we get over here too, I don't think there are others. Apart from diet cherry coke which I was so looking forward to tasting but I hated it :(

2. Which Chilli's do you visit when staying onsite and is it easy to get to? (You've made me desperate to go there you know :teeth

woohoo I might have another Chilis convert :teeth: The one we go to is on the 192 - it's about half a mile past Old Town on the same side (right hand side). The other one we visit occasionally is on International Drive as you are heading towards Wet n Wild.

3. Are the hot sarnies at the Earl Of Sandwich actually hot or just warm?

the sandwiches are hot, they make the sandwiches while you wait - you're given a number on your receipt and they call it out when it's ready, we normally had to wait 5 minutes. It's a must try, definitely!

4. Did you buy the monorail?????!!!!

unfortunately no but I'm getting it during our Xmas Trip lol. We were going to go back for it but in the end we never had time. Next time is a definite (plus we'll have a bigger luggage allowance with Virgin PE which will help ;)

Anz :earsgirl:

Hey Anz :)

Thank you very much for answering my questions. You are a star!

1. Will definitely try the diet coke and lime. I can't stand the lemon version so I'm pleased you don;t like that but still like the lime :teeth:

2. Another Chilli's convert?!! Oh yes! I will be able to find the 192 one now!

3. Yummy will definitely be trying Earl of Sandwich now :teeth: I'm fussy about things being hot but the sarnies sound yumtastic!

4. Booo :( at least you can get it at Xmas though. I am hoping to get one myself (baggage allowance willing!)

I think we will be at WDW at the same time looking at our countdowns so I may see you there :) When do you fly out? We leave LGW on Dec 9th.

We arrive on the 16th :Pinkbounc Hopefully we'll bump into each other or something  we're going to Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party on the 17th ;) I know the time's going to come round quickly but I really wish I was there now :p

Anz :earsgirl:

We may go to MVMCP on 17th too. We are going to wait and see first as we are going on 14th already; I think we may all be a little tired by then so will wait and see if there are any tickets left (I know there may well not be as it's the last one and also on a Friday) but I'm going to leave it to the fates!! I am quite keen to do a second one as I sincerely doubt we will ever get the opportunity to go to a MVMCP again, but I have so much planned already I really don't want to overload us!!

I know what you mean about overloading - trouble is, there is soooo much to do :D Hubby thinks I booked too many PS's and stuff for this trip so December we're taking it relatively easy - we've made 4 PSs and that's it. I still feel that there is so much I didn't get to do in our September trip but then we did lose 5 days :( Still, December will be here before we know it (I hope)!!

Anz :earsgirl:

Sounds like a great day. The sandwiches at Earl of Sandwich are delicious, I'll definately be heading there in December.
