Our garage door opener (Genie Excellerator) is a piece of crap. We've not been that pleased with it since it was originally installed, it seemed to snatch our old door up, eventually it caused the old door to stress to the point of cracking around the plate that attached the opener to the door. We had a new door installed and now the opener will not work properly, starts, then stops before raising the door more than 6 inches.
I have a company coming this afternoon to install a Liftmaster 3850. 3/4 hp, belt drive with surge protector, battery back up good for 40 cycles within a 24 hour period, digital wall panel with display for temp, etc (not necessary but included), and outside keypad. They are also going to program my opener inside my car for me. Turnkey price with tax, install, and the extra length of track (8 ft door) for $399. I've found a few reviews online but I guess I'm just hoping for reassurance that I'm not being ripped off. We installed the Genie ourselves and it was a PITA all around. Lowe's charges around $115 to install all of theirs, plus the tax, plus the openers are in the $250 range. (Not to mention these guys stand behind their work)
