Anyway to change existing reservations point usage once you are past 7 month window?

I have a trip in July, and I'm looking to hit up a few different resorts because I have addonitis. My home resorts are Bay Lake Tower and Animal Kingdom Lodge, with the BLT points being pre-riviera block and the animal kingdom bought resale last year. I have an existing reservation I made at BLT within the 11 month window, and I have some time at AKL, but am looking to book Rivera. I'm now noticing I don't have enough points within BLT to book the time I want at Riviera. Since its now past the 7 month window, can I modify my existing BLT reservation to use the AKL points instead since I should be able to book BLT with those points now? When I go to modify the reservation, the BLT points are locked. Is my only option to cancel and start over, with a risk I could lose it?

Yes, your only option is to cancel, then rebook. Or if those same dates are currently available, you book with your AKV points first, then cancel the existing reservation booked with BLT points during the 11-month booking window.
if those dates are not available, reallocating AKV points is essentially circumventing the home resort advantage and not allowed.

What you can do vs an all out cancel is use your AKV points to book any nights still there for the beginning and the end, and then modify your current to drop those days with the BlT points.

Then go in and quickly try to modify the new trip with the AKV points to add the nights dropped and hope the waitlist didn’t snag them.

This way, you at least can free up some unrestricted points.

But you can’t use non home resort points to ever replace a home resort booking unless nights are still there.
