Does anyone know of anyway to avoid the underage charge on rental cars? I won't true 25 until dec. and therefore I get charged the underage fee. Which some companies charge $25 a day! I need a car for a week and that would add another $175! Anyone have any ideas? PLEASE HELP! It's our honeymoon!

Two years ago, my fiance and I were both under 25, and called every rental car place in Ft. Lauderdale (where we flew to). I am sorry that I don't remember the names, but there were two big name companies that had a lower age of 21. Just keep calling and best of luck. I am planning my own honeymoon right now as well. We decied to forgo the rental car. Maybe that could be an option?
Congrats and best wishes, Ren

yup- it's been a few years since i was 25 too, but some of the companies used to use 21 or 23 as surchage line. SO like renessa says- call around.

Check with your employer, some have corporate rates that are available for leisure use that waive the underage surcharge. Otherwise shop, some people have reported that Enterprise has lower surcharges. If you can't get an acceptable rate you may want to stay in a hotel (on or offsite) where you can make do without a rental car.

Try L&M Car Rental. They say they charge $15/day for under 25 drivers. Maybe they will charge less if you tell them you are married. I am not under 25 but I have had a good experience using this company. They are right in the MCO terminal - no shuttles to take to get to the cars. We got a vey good rate, too. Good Luck!

Do be sure to tell them you are married (honeymooning?) It seems we had this same problem many, many years ago and that helped.

Try Arrival Car Rental, they say they welcome drivers 18 and up and they have pick up and drop off.
Found this in the See Orlando book. Which is also available on line at www.see-orlandoflorida.com
The number for Arrival is 1-888-697-RENT
If you speak with them, please, let us know how you did.
Happy Honeymoon Planning!!! :)

If you can't find one that will waive the charges, see what you can do in terms of using a credit card that provides coverage or using your regular car insurance. I've read that the charges for under 25 drivers are twice the normal insurance rate. So if you can get your credit card or regular insurance to cover half of the insurance, you'll only be paying the regular rate that all drivers pay. Does that make sense?

Just a update what I found out! FIrst the best rate I found was $105 a week for a economy car at interamerican. They only charge $10 a day. Arrival Charges $8 a day. So I was like 220 with taxes and everything with interamercan. I then went to dollar.com and they have a live chat option, which I really enjoy, more companies need to do this! I talk to a agent and told him my situation and he really helped me out. First I work for a school district so he explored that...and found that I am considered a state employee and so I get that discount and they will waive the underage fee, and include the loss damage wavier! So everything with taxes and ldw was $220.00. If I added the LDW to interamerican it would have been over $300. I am very impressed with the service I recieved at dollar. They spent a lot of time finding something that would help me out. They tried many options before finding the one that would work, ie. Sams club, costco, and many other clubs I am a memeber of. Just wanted to let everyone know just incase you are in the same situation. I LOVE THIS BOARD!!!:smooth:
