I am planning on taking a 4 day or 3 day cruise the week of July 4, 2003. It's a Friday. If I take the 4 day we'll be at a resort on July 4 (probably Poly or AKL).the 3 day we'll be on the Wonder. Do they do anything special that day on the ships? I have heard about what they do at the resorts and MK.

I had asked this question a while ago. I guess one year the 2 ships met in the ocean(it worked out that they were close on that night) and shot off fireworks. Unfortunately, they dont even do the regular fireworks anymore so I doubt they will have any for the 4th. Other than that I havent heard of anything special.

Back in 99 before the Magic did the 7-day itinerary, we were on a four day Magic sailing over 4th of July and at night we had onboard fireworks in Nassau by the Goofy pool. We also had daytime fireworks (we could see them on the island from the ship) as we pulled into Nassau (seems the mayor or governor of Nassau was onboard and they were welcoming him home).

As another poster stated.....they don't do fireworks onboard anymore.

So does anyone have any idea of what they have planned for this year? Or will we not know until the 4th? I hope they do something fun - last year I was in England on the 4th of July so we didn't have any celebration. I hope there's at least some sort of event.

Last year we were on the Magic 7 day Eastern for the 4th of July. They had a fouth of July party on deck 9 with all the characters decked out in patriotic costumes, patriotic music, etc. They also handed out complimentary glasses of champagne (or sparkling cider for kids and those who prefered it). The champagne or cider came in plastic "champagne flutes" with a clear top and either a red, white or blue bottom. I believe they had the DCL logo and something to the effect of "Disney Magic celebrates July 4, 2001". They also shot off confetti "bombs". This all took place during the afternoon.

As we boarded we noticed that there were hundreds of red, white and blue balloons netted up at the top of the ceiling in front of Lumiere's(Triton's?). In the evening around 10:00 they had a balloon drop for all the kids. In some of the balloons there were slips for prizes ranging anywhere from a credit in the giftshop up to the grand prize which was a 3-day cruise. It was a great idea in theory but it was very chaotic in reality. Many adults got in on grabbing and popping the balloons and a few were extremely aggressive. Happily a little boy ended up finding the balloon with the free cruise and needless to say he was thrilled and we were thrilled for him.

All in all it was a great way to celebrate the 4th and the "champagne flutes" made a great souvenier.
