We are very new to DVC (sent in paperwork/check last week!!!) and I just booked our 1st ressie this a.m. Altho our home resort is BCV, we are choosing to stay at VWL since DH has a conference over at the Contemporary for Spring Break. He plans to take the water transport over for his mtgs each a.m. while DS, DD & I enjoy the sights.

Right now, I have requested a room on a higher floor (quieter perhaps??) with a view of the lake.

I'm open to any and all suggestions re: views/room #s/special amenities.

You're going to love it. Even though we've only stayed at VWL and BCV, I love VWL. It is so quiet, peaceful, etc. I liked BCV also, but there is something special about VWL for us.
Hope you and your family enjoy it as much as we did.
Views: both times I've looked out towards the bus stop - once from mid way down hall on second floor, once from bottom floor. We loved both of them - saw a deer and fawn one day!
Relax and enjoy!!

You should know that WL is just a little more than a stone's throw from the Contemporary, I'd say no more than a quarter mile as the crow flies. However you can't get there from here! The shuttle boat is the only sensible transportation option. Even if you were allowed to walk (you're not), it would be about a mile because there's water/swamp in between. Call ahead and ask about the boat schedule to the Contemporary to see if it meets your needs.

Though there are reasons why it ain't gonna happen, I'd love to see a pedestrian walkway built from WL to CR.

for that photo, jaysue!! I can certainly see what you are talking about re: lake view. Wonder why the guy at MS asked about it??

Hopefully, all will go well w/the water transportation and DH will make his early a.m. mtgs.

Now, we just have to WAIT!!!! ARGH!!!

When is your Spring Break? And you had no problems booking recently for that time for a non home resort?

Hi, amylovesdisney. Yes, there are some upper floor rooms that have a view of Bay Lake through the trees. We had the best view ever on our last stay, as the trees parted and made a "V". You could look out and see trees and lake. There was no sign of civilation in sight!

Have fun!...

JerseyBob, our Spring Break is 3/15-3/19. I was very surprised that there was no problem at my non-home resort! Went right through!! I could have booked it as of 8/19 but waited until 9/2 because I needed to confirm DH's schedule. Hope it's always this easy!! :p

We had a beautiful view of the quiet pool with the lake beyond. We were on one of the upper floors in a room at the end of a (short) hallway very close to the Lodge. The sunrise over the lake was wonderful. So yes, there are great lake views from the VWL.

if your kids are old enough you may want to check out the boat and bike plan there at WL. It is the best place. For 199 you can rent the water mice, pontoon boats, nice picnic or relaxing ride, and bikes for the duration of your stay. It is really great. We did it in July and it was great.

You'll love it. There is no problem with the boat transportation to the CR. We do it all the time. They usually have boats running both ways around the loop from CR -> Fort Wilderness -> WL. So some boats go straight from WL to CR and others go to the Campground first. Either way, it's a nice ride that doesn't take too long.
