Anything happening after Presidents Day that would fill up the resorts?

For instance I know they have drill team/cheerleading competitions and some sports events, but I'm not sure what time of year these occur. I'll be there after Presidents Day to the end of February.

Thanks!

New England School vacations!!! Most fall from Presidents Day week on thru the remainder of the month.

President's Day begins the prime season for Florida. All the folks fleeing cold weather will be there. I'm not sure whether any special events also take place at this time.

I tried to get a room this year thru DVC Member Services during President's Week, and the CM told me that there were none available because it was when the Daytona 500 was taking place.

We will be there the week after Pres. week (arriving Feb. 22), it is mid-winter break in many MI school districts. It is also Mardi Gras I believe. 2002 we were there the week before Pres. week and it was both Mardi Gras and Daytona week, it got busier each day of that week! But not overwhelming at all.

Thanks for the feedback everyone!

This made me feel better though :p

LOL

Sorry about that!:sunny:

To clarify, we arrived on a Wed (the week before all that) and left on Tues. of that week. The Wed, Thurs. and Fri. were low crowds at all three parks, no lines at all, no need for fast passes. Starting Sat. you could see a daily increase in crowd sizes. The monorail guide at GF told us Daytona week and Mardi Gras bring in big crowds. We still did Epcot on that Mon. and MK that Tues. We just had to use fast passes and some strategy but never had longer than a 30 min. wait for anything.

Good luck.

We are going the week of Feb 21st-28th. This is Mardi Gras vacation for La including ourselves. I am keeping my fingers crossed that it won't be as busy as it was for our last trip in June. :o I would really prefer to go before Pres. Day but my husband refuses to take the kids out of school :( So is it as busy as the summer time? Where can we find a list of events going on in Fla for this time period?

New York school are out that week also. We went last trip this time of the year and was worried about crowds. I didn't find them to be too bad but we flew in the day after presidents day. I hear that weekend is really busy. My friends in Ga. told us their schools are now closing for this week also. Maybe thats bringing more crowds.

Everyone here is getting me worried. Are the East Coast schools off on President's Day Week (Feb 16-Feb 20) or the week after. I am planning a trip the last week of February, figuring most spring breakers would not be there until Mid-March.

cashout - spring breaks to start second or third week in feb so you (me too!) will probably have spring breakers there.... but the bulk of the spring breaks do occur in march.

I think that if you are used to going to WDW during the summer months than the crowds won't be as bad in February during that time. If you are used to going during the value times than I think you would consider it busy. We were there during Mardi Gras (last half of our trip was the first part of Mardi Gras). It was a disappointment for us because it got busier. However, I'm sure it gets a lot busier. It just went from being slow, to busy overnight.

Here's a link to the dates of the Daytona 500 and speed weeks for the next 5 years!!!

http://www.daytonachamber.com/speedweeks/speedweekcalendar.htm

The Daytona 500 is Sun., 2/15 and the next day is President's Day. I've just begun planning for our next trip -- the Sunday after President's Day, 2/22 through 2/27 for Mardi Gras. (FYI...Not all of Louisiana is off for Mardi Gras, mainly southern LA and not all week. Some just for 2 or 3 days.)

Mardi Gras falls 40 days before Easter, so the date changes every year. Two years ago for our last trip to WDW, Mardi Gras was the Tuesday before the Daytona 500 and President's Day. By that Thursday, the park was getting a little more crowded. But overall our longest wait was 30 minutes and that was for Test Track which had only opened a few months before. (Even with Fast Pass!)

Anyway, with two kids waiting in a line in 70 degree weather beats waiting in 90 degree weather anytime!

The only bummer is now that Mardi Gras falls two weeks later this year, we're going during Peak season regarding resort rates. Last time it was value season and right after 9/11 so we got great rates. I'm hoping for more discounts, in the meantime I'll book any room and just change plans once discounts come out!

Any idea when Disney might announce winter discounts???

allicat - wear your lime green ribbon! maybe i'll see ya! our tentative schedule is 2/17-2/27 and I'm so excited about Mardi Gras @ PI because I miss it so much! (I'm from Baton Roughe but live in Texas -no one here celebrates it but I order my gambino's king cake each year ;))

allicat1214, sounds like we are on a very similar vacation schedule!

We have a ressie with a AAA discount but that is only 10% off rack rates in peak season so I am doing the watch and wait for codes too!

Having been to WDW once during Easter week I figure nothing could be worse... ok maybe x-mas week but even that my sister did this past year and said with fast pass and PS for meals it was doable.
