Anything coming after Dennis?

Thanks for the info! I'll take anything to make me feel a little easier about the trip. We have planned it for so long that I want everything to be perfect (a little falt of mine). :earboy2:
The odds of something coming thru when we are there and hitting that exact location is pretty slim I guess. Also I think there is usually a week or more in between storms so if this storm does come this way maybe that will be it for another couple of weeks. :goodvibes Keeping good vibes!
Any other stories of encouragement would be great for us coming that way soon.
We are flying to keep things low stress and to maximize our vacation time. CANT WAIT!

SAME HERE!!! I'll be there on July 25 to 30. And I'm a little compulsive trying to get all the info possible about anything near Puerto Rico (where I live) and Florida. :earseek: It's my first trip to Orlando so, you can imagine the stress

As we all just saw with Dennis, hurricane paths are hard to predict HOURS in advance--much less days and or weeks!!!!
Far too soon to have any good idea if TD5 will even become a hurricane, much less strike at the heart of Florida.
It might--it might not. We watch and wait and hope for the best!!

How true this is. I live in Mobile and fled from Ivan which was making a beeline to us, only to shift towards Pensacola about an hour before landfall so it was bad but we did not take the brunt of it. This week I went to bed thinking that TS Cindy was hitting New Orleans only to wake to the sound of my Flag beating against the side of my house with Cindy over us because it took a turn upon landfall. And this Sunday we woke up with a category 4 hurricane Dennis(which was a category 2 when we went to sleep) heading straight for us. Fortunately it decreased in strength, but unfortunately for our Pensacola neighbors this one too took a jog to the east just a few short hours from landfall.
The point is you never know where and when these things are going to hit, they speed up, slow down and move around all the time. If there is a possibility that one is heading your direction whether you live there or are heading there on vacation you should be prepared and aware of what is going on and possibly be prepared to be a little flexible with your vacation times.
:Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: bounce away those hurricanes!!

I just want to say BOO!!! to all past, present, and future hurricanes. All they do is cause trouble and heartache for anyone who lives in their path (or plans to vacation in it). Maybe if we all boo hard enough, they will all just go away.

A little pixie dust won't hurt, either. :wizard: :wizard:

TD5 is now Tropical Storm Emily. Hopefully she takes a turn east and falls apart in the Atlantic.

#6 would be Franklin...but let's not get ahead of ourselves. :umbrella: It would be lovely to watch Emily just spin out to sea... :wizard:

I think it was Floyd. Everyone was so certain it was headed right for WDW--

Right now there isn't a TS6 is there?

Nop, not yet. If you see weather channel they can show you that there is a bunch of clouds forming suspiciosly. But there is nothing official from the NOAA. Now, all the eyes are pending to TS Emily. Especially here in the caribbean...

Keeping sending pixie dust :wizard: and all my prayers for a little peace in the Atlantic Activity.

These storms are so unpredictable. Last year we went in September. Hurricane Jeanne was in the mid atlantic and heading north away from everything...not a threat to land anywhere. It did a last minute loop d loop and headed for FLA. We were already in WDW, so it was not a problem. The weather was bad for about 10 hours. The day before the storm it was beautiful. It was kinda cool to go in the parks and watch them batten down the hatches. The day after the parks were up and running....and empty both before and after the storm. The best thing is to get to Orlando before the storm gets there (duh) . In order to avoid delayed flights book the earliest flight you can get...the later the flight the chances of delayed flight increases. If they close the Orlando airport, well your pretty much screwed. If possible try to leave a day earlier. You are perfectly safe in WDW, so don't worry about that. Once you are there you will have a great time and will be able to relax.

So, what all do they do to prepare for a storm? Do they close the rides?
Just wondering.

Looks like July is going to be just like August and September of last year, a hurricane almost every weekend. Emily is out there. And perhaps soon to be TD #6 is not far behind. It's too early to really stress. Just keep an eye on it, and have alternate plans ready if needed. Believe me, I would rather just be visiting thant living here right now. :rotfl:

I heard this morning "Emily" is on it's way. But we, too, were at OKW during Charley and I really think there is no where safer. The staff was very efficient, tied down and removed planters, brought flash lights to all the rooms (we never needed them), etc. The news reports were so informative, ie street closings, shelters, shelters for pets, shelters for disabled, etc. Go and have fun.

The parks are open while they prepare for the storm. They bolt down the kiosiks, tke down the flags, and anything that cn cause damage or get damaged. Then as the storm approaches, they close all the parks and you are to stay in your room until they give the all clear. There are disney employees that stay underground during the storm, so they can start clean up immdiately. The parks are usually open the next day and depending how much clean up there may not be early open. We were at the GF in the Main Building, so The only place to get dinner at the GF was Citrico's, but it was set up as a buffet, not regular menu. It was pay 1 price and all you can eat. However, you have to stay at your resort and not allowed to leave until they say so. Every resort provides for their guests. We had CL so the regualr offerings were subsituted with all kinds of sandwiches and other goodies, soda, wine etc.. In the lobby during the storm they had Tigger, pooh, eyeore, Cindrella nad Prince Charming - they spent hours with all the children. They also had a magician and the band played all night. It was actually a lot of fun, people dancing and drinking while the storm was blowing. WDW contacts you by phone (regular updates) in your room as to what to do and what is going on as far as weather, the parks, and dining and when you can leave your room. They also play free movies on their channels. Amazingly, all the debris is cleared and the parks are re-opened and you would never know there was a storm. WDW will also conp you 1 day park ticket for the lost day in the parks.

For those of you that say you would rather be just visiting:
I would love to live at the ocean but I haven't been able to pull myself from the protection of the mountains. Usually when the storms get here they weaken and break up. I am so scared of bad storms and the possibility of a tornado.
However, even last night we got a nasty storm (off Dennis I think) and it flooded here (once again) and there were trees knocked down and power was out. With the way the weather has been I don't think anyone can really completely escape the chance of being in the path of these storms - not even up here. Crazy!

Thanks for the info. With the way WDW handles things during a storm you almost (just almost- not really) want a storm to come through so you can see how they take care of you. My fears have been calmed. Thanks to everyone for the input!! :grouphug: :cheer2: :cool1:

What would Disney do at the Moderates and value resorts. People will have to outside to get to the restaurants and public areas. Do anyone know ??

Thea, I believe they tell you stay in your room when the weather gets really bad. If you know it's coming, I would stock up on snacks for the room because how long the bad portion lasts depends on how big the system is and how fast (or slow) it is moving.
