Any DISers have a son attending the Boy Scout's Order of the Arrow National Conference at the University of Michigan??

Our Eagle Scout/Lodge Chief son is there! Conference started yesterday and runs through Thursday.

We received a call at noon yesterday saying he was almost there - that will probably be the last we hear from him until he gets home. ;)

This is the largest NOAC in OA history. I believe it's something like 8,000 Arrowmen.

Not attending, but I'm a member and so is DS here in Maryland.

Is he performing in any of the competitions?

Kathy,

He is a member of the Competitions Team in his Lodge - but not all of the members went to NOAC, so no, he isn't.

The Dance and Drum team, however, are. In fact, at the 2004 Lodge the Drum team took first place! :thumbsup2

Surprisingly enough, I did talk to him today. He had just finished dinner after 6 hours of training cells. The evening show was scheduled for 8-10 pm.

He said that he had massive amounts of paperwork to coordinate as Lodge Chief. He's also registered for the Arrowman Press Corps to report back home to a local newspaper.

He was having fun and ready to go patch trading tonight! :Pinkbounc ( I love to look at all of the patches he trades for from Conclaves, NOAC, and Boy Scout National Jamborees.)

DS attended his Section Conclave in Cumberland, Maryland back in June.

Hey Pammy, I have no idea what you are talking about but sounds fun. I think we should go too ;) Your son would appreciate us showing up and supporting him.

Pam - I just read my DH your post. He was thinking of attending this weekend but couldn't make it. He's probably in the same Lodge as your DS - Kuskitannee #168?

You know that he would rather eat worms, walk across hot coals, and wrestle an alligator than to see his Mommy show up!! :faint:

The Boy Scouts have a national honor camping program, called the Order of the Arrow. Fellow Scouts vote the members in. My son is now attending the National Conference for the OA in Michigan. Arrowmen from across the U.S. and other countries are there for 6 days.

Pam - Soooooooooo true!

Wish your son good luck in trading patches!

Our troop has a Ritual Dance Team which performs for bridging ceremonies etc. and the guys love it!

This event is a big deal and our OA newsletters always profile it big time!

Kathy,

My son was on both the Dance and Ceremonies teams but gave up the Dance Team as two teams was 1 too many for him! :)

He has also performed at Bridging Ceremonies with both teams - the Cubs are always so enthralled.

He has a digital 7 mp Sony camera with him so he better be taking LOTS of photos! ;)

I forgot that his Lodge is also entered into some competitions for Historical Displays of Lodges, etc.

My son is at NOAC this week as well! He's from Oregon and has really cool patches to trade!! He called last night to let me know that while the heat was terrible they were being told to take it easy and drink lots of water!! Says he's having a blast!!!!! They went to Cedars Point before NOAC started and that seems to have gone over great too. I am a bit worried about the heat as they are in NON air conditioned dorm rooms but they are being well looked after. (they are in Michagan) He gets home on Friday and turns around and leaves for his troops boy scout summer camp on Sunday....busy busy busy (and he just got back from Operation Purple a camp for kids who have deployed miltary parents just two days before he left for NOAC so haven't seen much of him this month)
