Anyone's kids have a frenectomy?

this sounds like what my DD had done at age 3. the piece of tissue attached to the underside of her tongue was attached too far down the tongue (toward the tip) and her ped. said if we didn't have it cut, she'd most likely have a speech impediment. we had it done when she was 3, the day before thanksgiving and at thanksgiving dinner the next day she was fine, like it had never happened. i was amazed.

No...this is not the tongue.;) And someone mentioned "tongue-tied", wrong body part.

This is the frenulum which is the thing that is on the inside the upperside of your lip.
Touch your tongue on the inside of your lip to your nose.
There it is.

My dd's is totally infused between her 2 front teeth which creates a HUGE gap.

I had one over 30 years ago- had a rather large space between my front teeth- the tissue they found during my surgery- was actually muscle- apparently it was unexpected but I was about 6 so I don't recall for sure. - but I do remember them having to go from the front of upper lip all the way around to my pallatte to get it all and it wasn't supposed to be like that-

Later the dentist gave me rubber bands to put around my two front teeth to put them together- but that of course didn't work

Of course later when I was a teen- the orthodontist didn't mind the frenectomy- but said the rubber band thing the dentist tried was stupid lol

My dd's ortho thought she needed a frenectomy at age 10. Instead of it, we decided to try upper front braces only.

Her gap closed, literally, overnight. She wore those braces for a few months.

She'll be 14 in a few weeks and the gap is still gone, no frenectomy needed.

:thumbsup2 That is the way you are supposed to do it now. You are ahead of your time.:lmao:

My dd will need it. Her issue is awful.:sad2:

Plus she is missing her 2 canines. Yep her teeth are not pretty.:guilty:

I had 4 of them when i was in my early 20's. They used tissue from the roof of my mouth. I wore a retainer for a couple of weeks afterward to protect the roof of my mouth. I needed to repair the top sides of my gums and the bottom front and sides. I needed 5, but then i got pregnant with my daughter and never went back for the bottom left side.
It was an uncomfortable procedure and I became very antsy.

My DS8 just had this done a few months ago. They used a laser and it was super easy, not complications at all. It took about 10 minutes in the office. There was no bleeding, but there was a little swelling for the rest of the day. My son said that it only a hurt a little, and that was later on in the day when the medication wore off. By the next day he was perfectly fine.

The skin on my DS was very thick and came all the way down to the bottom of the gum. It was causing the two front teeth to not be able to come together.

All my girls were born tongue-tied as well as my dad and myself. My girls had theirs done soon after birth (Dad and I were 4-5 yrs old).

My middle DD needs the top one done since it never "riped" and she can't smile enough to see any of her top teeth. I knew with my experiences to get under the tongue done ASAP for speech issues (even with all my girls were in EI and LIU for years as well as my dad and myself) but no clue that it could happen to the top area too. Poor kid!

I will have to find out more about the laser procedure. I don't think she will go for how they did itr when she was 2 days old.;) I was in the room when all my girls had it done and itis not that bad but they all cried and I would have to if it was done to me.

my dd#1 had a tounge tie (Lingual frenectomy) done at 3yrs old. Hers was done by an ear nose and throat person. It was an in and out thing took about 5 min after she was in "surgery" for them to do it.. she was eating chicken nuggetts on the way home. It was by far her easiest out of her 3 surgery's she had.

No, not the same thing.;)

Actually both are called the frenulum. The one attaching the upper lip to the gums is the upper *****l frenulum. The one attaching the tongue to the floor of the mouth is the lingual frenulum. There is also a lower *****l frenulum attaching the lower lip to the gums. And there is also a frenulum in another part of the body that is not for discussion here. Surgery relating to any of them is a frenectomy.

When I googled I kept getting discussions about the part of the body that is not for discussion here. :rotfl:

The one we are considering is the upper *****l frenulum.

Yep, that's the one my DD has trouble with. It took some practice to be able to get her to nurse properly because of it. The first time I googled it after my pediatrician told me about it, I was like whaaaaaaaat the crap?????????????
