Hello fellow Dis'ers,

I was wondering if anyone on these boards work for the airlines? I currently work as a Reprographic associate (copy center operator) for a law firm, and while I like the job and the people I work with I feel this isn't where I want to end up. So I began looking at various airline web sites and poking around their career areas and was wondering....how is it working for the airlines? Some of the web sites post starting pay for Custmer Service Agents at $9.75. Is this where everyone startes out or is this just a basic starting point? I make over $12.00 hr. and really don't want to go under that...I can't go under that. I don't have airline experience, but I do have customer service experience. Will this help in how much I make? I'd love some input. Thanks everyone.

Steven

I work for an airline. The $9.75 is what you get paid. You do not get more if you have certain skills. I love woking for this airline but can be a lot of work for little pay, but the beney's are great. after working for 60-90 days you can fly for free. You also get some extra perks.

One of my student's mom works part time for a major airline. She loves it, the perks are excellent.

I'm not sure how good the pay is, but I think the free air and discount hotel rates will more than make up for the pay.

Hey Twizzle,

So you don't get paid more than $9.75? That sucks! I can't afford to get paid less than what I get paid now. Living in the Boston area is expensive. So what are some of those extra perks? you can PM me if you'd like.

I'm sure the perks are great, but living in the Boston area is expensive and I think that's going to be the deciding factor for me. Unfortnately, because I would love to have some of those perks.

Typically the CSA's are paid on a scale, so yes you would start off at $9.75 for example, and it should go up every six months or a year based on that scale. After a few years, say 10, you may top out at about $21 or $22. It really varies on the airline, so this is just one example, and the numbers may be off a little.

Also, some airlines have a "cost of living" pay adjustment..IE..San Francisco and Boston.I have to say you have to be passionate about what you are doing to work for an airline. There are a lot of sacrifices involved ,you end up working holidays and weekends .A sudden thunderstorm ,a hurricane or snowstorm anywhere that the airline flies to, can turn and will change your day upside down.I once read an article which had a list of the most stressful jobs.....1. lawyers........2.Airline Employees,...which according to the article induced to alcoholism  ,but, since I'm not an alcoholic or work with anyone who is, I don't take the article seriously. It is fun, you get to travel, meet a lot of people and get a lot of discounts. I don't mean to discourage you in any way , I'm sure you appreciate an honest answer

Wow, I should be recluting airline personel, Right? ;)

Luckily, I am currently in my airline top pay, work part time(by choice), have partial weekends off and most importantly I am no longer in customer service (I work in a quiet office).

Thanks everyone for giving me an honest and direct answer. I've alwayes wanted to work for the airlines, but the pay is the biggest part for me. I have $40,000 in student loans to pay off so the pay is the biggest part. Once again, thanks for the responses.
