Anyone with cervical fusion surgery still riding coasters?

I just found out some very bad news. I need to have surgery on my cervical spine, removing my blown disk and fusing two of the vertebrae (c6-C7) together. I'm heartsick that I may never be able to ride BTMRR, EE or Splash again. Does anyone still do these if you've had this kind of surgery?

I actually hurt my back during our trip to WDW last month (carrying heavy backpack) and got all this started, although I think it had been brewing for several years.

I too have had cervical fusion (C5-C6). It was in 2002. I just rode a coaster (RRC) this past Dec. I have recently found out though that I have to have another fusion done at C7. This was disheartening. :sad2: But I posted on here and had a couple of replies from people who had had fusions and were still active on coasters. I would give it a year min. though. It takes you body some time to recuperate from that kind of thing and then you want to let the screws and plates become totally imbedded by regrowth of bone before you do anything like a coaster. Hang in there. You will ride again one day! :goodvibes

I had spine surgery MANY, MANY years ago. My lower spine is fused and I have rods on each side of my spine. I still ride Disney rides.

Even after the surgery I did the local fair's rides.

But like last person stated I would give yourself plenty of healing time.

I had a spinal fusion surgery when I was 13 (I'm now 28). While it did not include cervical vertebrae, it did involve most of my thoracic and lumbar vertebrae. I also got Harrington rods to along w/ the fusion. While it did take me a while to recover fully (I had to go a year w/ no running, jumping, lifting, or swimming -- and this was 15 years ago, more modern medicine may have improved the recovery time since then) I don't have any restrictions on my activities now and ride coasters ALOT! :thumbsup2

I can't say for sure if there is any difference when the fusion involves your cervical vertebrae but I thought I would share my experience! Good luck! pixiedust:
