Anyone who's had STREP THROAT. Help please.

I had a temp of 100.2 yesterday and a very sore throat. Went to the doc, rapid strep came back positive. I've never had this before and she told me 24 hours on the penicillin I'd feel much better. After a full day on antibiotics, today my temp is 101.3 and I'm breaking into a sweat when I swallow from the pain. My ears are also throbbing. Has this happened to you? Is it normal?

It took me a couple of days on the antibiotic to feel better from strep. Hang in there. Hope you feel better soon.

My kids always get it....and I think it does get worse before it gets better. In fact, DD10 has had a terrible sore throat since yesterday....it was beat red! No fever though and is a little better today. Hopefully it will be even better tomorrow so I can avoid a DR appt....


Hope you feel better soon!! Try gargling with warm salt water!

Oh...and another thing I swear by now is Tylenol Sore Throat syrup....it works excellent!

I had strep once at 15 and then got it three times last year (in the mid thirties now). If you have kids, please get someone to help you out. The antibiotics will kick in soon. Change the toothbrush also.

I feel duped. The doc made it sound like I'd wake up feeling like a new woman! I rarely ever take antibiotics, and the last time I took one (Bactrim) I broke out into a rash and a fever. I was feeling so terrible when I went to the doctor I forgot to tell them. I looked it up online and it says only 5-10% cross sensitivity. So far no rash, but I was hoping the fever wasn't from the antibiotic. Looks like it's just the strep. Thanks for the info.

I've had it in oct and november - I had it so bad that I had to go to the ER. The antibiotics do take a couple of days to work. Feel better!

It's been awhile since I've had strep, but I (painfully) remember it taking 2 or 3 days to start feeling better. I seriously have never been as sick in my life as when I had strep

My throat was so sore I could not even swallow, had to spit! Yuck!

Ouch. It keeps switching sides. Yesterday my right side was very painful, and today my left is SO much worse. Thanks for the information.

Took a full 3 days before I felt "ok" again. I get toncilitis(sp?) VERY often and even with that it's a good 3 days before I feel ok. Try and choke down some Advil - that will help with some of the pain. Hope you feel better soon.

Thanks so much. This is my third sore throat in three months, but first strep. I started working in a new hospital back in July and it seems like since then I've had something every month. Doctor told me that it takes a year for your body to adjust to the new bugs, and that no matter how many times you wash your hands and glove up, they always find a way to get you. I'm counting down to one year.

I know the feeling!! Don't mean to dampen your spirits, but I just finished my 3rd round of antibiotics to get rid of my strep!! I have to go back for another culture tomorrow to make sure it's gone for good. Was a fun December/early January around here for sure.............

My kids get it alot too.
One just got it last Wed. the anitbiotic won't help the fever so I would definitely take some Advil along with it. 24 hrs and then they say its not contagious. I think it takes a few days for you to feel better though.

yes, the antibiotics won't help with the fever or the pain, so take some advil. If the throat gets so swollen that you can't swallow, definately contact your Doctor again.
