Anyone who has seen The Kings Speech...

OUr 10 year old son watched with us. It is a great movie, enjoy.

The US rating system is so dumb. A few f-bombs and it gets an R. But trashy "thrillers" like The Rite or The Roomate are PG-13.

I'd rather my kid see The King's Speech any day of the week. What's funny is that he doesn't direct the words at anyone. They are just said in pretty much the least vulgar way possible.

Stupid.

I totally agree!!! I couldn't believe they rated The Rite PG-13. Granted I haven't seen it, but OMG, the trailers are so icky!!! And I love horror movies!
I never figured out why the Matt Damon movie The Informant was rated R either, I saw it in the theater and scratched my head all the way home.

She'll love it then-- they all SHINE in it. I am so confused about why Rush wasn't nominated for a Best Supporting Actor nom. Have a great time!

he was

Actor in a Supporting Role

* Christian Bale in “The Fighter”
* John Hawkes in “Winter's Bone”
* Jeremy Renner in “The Town”
* Mark Ruffalo in “The Kids Are All Right”
* Geoffrey Rush in “The King's Speech”

Thank you all, we went tonight and we all loved it!!!!!!!!! I am rather apalled they gave it an R rating, how ridiculous! I would hate to think younger people might miss out on the movie because of the rating. My dd absolutely loved it.

If a movie has the f-word more than 3 times in it, then it is automatically rated R... but full frontal nudity for a woman makes it PG13 (anyone remember Titanic??). I think we have our priorities a little mixed up in the country!

He was -- but nobody seems to be noticing anyone other than Christan Bale in that catagory (which, I understand, but STILL)

I would go without any hesitation!!! It is a wonderful movie!!

Just a bit!!! I thought Jack Nicholsons Fword tirade in How Do You Know way worse than this.

In Canada it is only rated PG (not even PG13).
In Australia it got a M rating which is one above PG there but not restricted.

The movie is outstanding and you should really go and see it.

The scene with the language is in context versus the gratuitous swearing in most movies.

It is a real shame it is rated R in the USA.

OT but does anyone know what a movie like The Rite is rated in Canada, Australia and the UK? My goggling skills came up empty.

We loved The King's Speech and I am so glad we ignored the R rating and took our 13 & 15 y/o. We need to revamp our rating system here.

I would much rather my DD see this movie with its one profanity scene - in context, not gratuitous and as part of the story line - than many of the PG13 movies with bathroom humor, glorification of bad behavior, double entendre sexual innuendo and casual 'hook-ups' anyday. She should see the movie. You won't regret it.

Oh, wow, thanks! Totally missed that-- he deserves it, even though Christian Bale is obviously going to get it.

The Rite is rated 15 in the UK.

But then the next one down from that is a 12A, which as I mentioned before would allow under 12s to watch it in a cinema with an adult. I've not seen it or even trailers for it, but it sounds like a horror-type film which would not get a 12A.

...can you answer a question for me? I see its rated R, and all the listings I see say it's only for language. My 15 year old dd would really like to see this movie, what do you think of the R rating? She is in high school, so it's not like she doesn't hear language all day long. I didn't want to read any of the in depth kid review sites, as I don't want to spoil the movie for myself.

Thanks!

The main character says the F-word 13 times in a row, but that's about it. And it does not refer to the actual action of the F-word. It has other 4-letter-words words mixed in there too. It's a very funny scene, and a great movie. Don't let a few cuss words turn you away!
