Anyone watching Ben the Bachelor tonight? - NO SPOILERS PLEASE

It was an arranged paid promotional on ABC's own network television.

It is not like GMA came out and said, "According to un-named sources.... blah, blah, blah...."

So, somebody wants to impose their own, very questionable, view/opinion on what THEY think is a spoller on everybody else here.... And, everybody else just HAS to agree and to comply... THAT, is the problem...

At this point, the posts here are way more full of personal drama than the show itself!!! Seeing what others post here is more entertaining than watching it on Monday night!

No one person is imposing their viewpoint. There are about 25 "regular" posters to this thread. We are all weighing in our opinions as people check into the thread.

I was the one who originally said to just put the spoiler/preview info in white font so people who want to know can, while others don't have to.

A second person said that won't work if people quote each other and it shows up readable in the quote.

That evolved into a third person pointing out that even if they don't reveal the person, in discussing it, it may be inadvertently discernible who is being talked about.

About 5 other people then stated that if some people don't want the info disclosed here, out of courtesy & respect, let's not discuss it.

It was also mentioned that Happygirl has started a thread for spoilers for people who do want to know and want to discuss what hasn't aired yet.

I looked at a spoiler which seemed to say that Steve whatever is inconclusive, so I guess I'll just wait and see.

As the OP of this thread but a relative newbie to the DIS, I am glad there are no spoilers on this thread. I never look at Reality Steve and don't like to know anything about upcoming shows including who the surprise visitor is next week. Why not just start another thread with spoilers, that way everyone is happy?

(Not trying to play God, just throwing that idea out there to make everyone happy!)

Not that I really need a spoiler about who he will pick. I figured that out when Jamie was throwing herself at Ben and he couldn't keep his eyes off Courtney in her white bikini that he could only think with one part of his anatomy and therefore would choose Courtney no matter what. I could be wrong but somehow I doubt it. Most years I don't have a strong feeling either way and some years have been shocked at the outcome. When Jake chose Vienna over Tenley I was floored. This year I will be floored if he doesn't choose Courtney but I didn't invest this much time in the show to find out ahead of time.

Goodness, there's been a lot of activity on this thread since Monday night! And most of it is related to defining spoilers. Actually, reading everyone's response has been more fun than this whole stupid season anyway!

Here's my two cents, do with it what you will...

I prefer non-spoiler threads. Just my preference but I like to be somewhat surprised each week. Though that's getting harder and harder with that dolt Ben.

A spoiler, to me, is any information about the show that hasn't aired yet in the episode. So that whole GMA clip I would consider as a spoiler since it's "spoiling" the episode before it has aired.

Honestly, this season is like watching paint dry...(boring, boring, boring!) that any spoiler kind of takes away the teeny, tiny bit of excitement this ridiculous show offers. For instance, I was so sure that Emily would make the final four hometown dates and was shocked when she was eliminated.

This thread has made watching Ben the ape and Courtney the sucker fish bearable. My vote is to keep it spoiler free please.

Ever since The Voice started I've been watching that live and DVRing the Bachelor.Ben is much MUCH more tolerable when you boil down 2 hours to about 7 minutes. Bonus! No lip smacking face sucking noises at 60X speed!

Traditionally speaking, a spoiler is any information that hasn't aired at all; in clips, upcoming scenes, trailers, etc. It's an unauthorized leak/rumor.

This is a previously shown/aired scene *on the show, by the show* that was randomly edited it into a surprise for the sake of ratings.

If you've been watching the show, you have seen the scene - faces and everything. It was revealed weeks ago in "upcoming scenes from the Bachelor", not by GMA. They didn't tell you 'when' the episode containing the scene in it's entirety would air - but it was clearly evident who/what was going on in it. In addition, the show released authorized footage of the scene to to GMA, ET, again, weeks ago.

Perhaps they were hoping that their viewers weren't paying attention, can't piece scenes together, and/or forgot? Or perhaps ratings have recently SHOT up and they are capitalizing on it? Whatever the bizarre case, it appears that their plan is working.

Seriously, this dumb show is NOT worth defending, or arguing over. It's NO ONE's fault here for assuming it's ok to discuss the already seen controversial scene. Obviously it's this winning show's fault. And if the show is going to be pulling crap like this with "upcoming scenes from the Bachelor" - we're all going to be walking on eggshells.

Aw, prettyprincess, it was not my intention to insinuate that you were arguing when I quoted you. I thoroughly enjoy discussing this trainwreck of a show with you, and others.

The issue of it being a 'spoiler' seemed to be getting a bit debateful (again, not geared toward you) and I just wanted point out that show is the one to blame here...they are the ones responsible for airing the scene(s), with faces, during the normal broadcast hours; not GMA, blogs, or anyone on the Dis.

This clip was purposefully released to GMA, and promoted by, The Bachelor.

I would not consider this a spoiler any more than I would consider the "next week, on the Bachelor...." at the end of every episode to be a spoiler.

I would not consider this to be a spoiler any more than I would consider a promotional advertisement for the show after the ABC evening news to be a spoiler.

It is not a 'leak'.

Since some people on this thread consider that info to be spoiler info then I don't see what the big deal is about respecting that. If you want to discuss parts of the show before the actual air date, then there are other threads for that.

You mentioned twice that it was on a national news show, like it was televised as much as Whitney Houston's death.

And it's just so easy to go to the other thread with like minded people and share all the information you want. As far as the GMA clip...it was easy enough to post the link to the clip with the information that it shows who it was who shows up at Ben's door. Done.

It is obvious that this is just not a spoiler, and is preview/promotional stuff put out by the show.

It is nothing to be disclosed or not...
It is out there.
It is part of the whole Bachelorette show as aired by ABC.

If there are a few people who do not want to see any legitimate, non-spoiler information, AT ALL.... Who only want to watch the two hour show on Monday nights... and that is all... Hey, I can respect that.... I would suggest that they do not watch ABC television at any other time, they do not go online, and that, 'out of respect for others', they do not participate in a legitimate discussion thread about the show, which does include all advertising and promotional material put out there by ABC.

So simple, it would seem.

It wouldn't ruin it for me because I really don't care about any of these people but I think part of the fun is watching each episode as they play out. I think it's fair to discuss the show after it's been aired, anything before then should be on a spoiler thread. I don't know what is hard about that anyway, seems a silly thing to argue about. Especially since we've been having so much fun snarking.

Wow, just wow. WE members are the ones who make up this discussion thread. The majority of us should decide what happens on THIS thread. So far, the majority have weighed in as NOT wanting it posted.

For someone who has understood or gone through such abuse, manipulation, control issues and passive aggression, how is it you turned into such a bully in this matter???

I also fail to understand why you can't just post the info & discuss it on another spoiler thread. You are the one who has a lot invested in pushing your way on this thread, when the majority who have already weighed in on this have said not to discuss it. It is obviously about something else for you.

Again, here is the spoiler thread. I will even bump it for you. Although, you are free to start another one and decide whatever rules you want on it and impose your own way as OP of that thread.
