I'm a die-hard Bosco/Faith shipper (short for relationshipper -- people who are fans of certain pairings on TV shows) -- but by the same token, I hope it wouldn't ruin the show if the two of them got together romantically. I don't know if you guys remember the show Moonlighting -- but as soon as the characters that had chemistry got together (Maddie and Dave), it totally ruined the show. right now, I'll be happy if the two of them are back to a regular talking relationship.
As for Doc and Jimmy. I'll start with Eddie Cibrian (who played Jimmy). Odds are, he is not going to come back to the show, but never say never. He's a california boy, and he and his wife had just built a house out in california, not to mention that she lives out there with their infant. He never really liked New York. I'm very glad they left it wide open for him to return though -- Ed Bernero, when I chatted with him about it, told me they were purposely doing it that way.
As for Michael Beach (Doc) -- he's another one who wanted to move back to California. His wife and kids were out there as well, and I guess being seperated from them for 5 years was enough for him. While his exit was troubling, I think that it was very fitting -- and showed probably what a LOT of the emergency workers who were connected to 9/11 are still feeling. And it also showed that even those who are seen as the most stable could easily crack. Kind of a shame. I thought that Doc's character became the most interesting this season... and now he's gone. And I thought they did an excellent job building up to it.
Without spoiling anything, I can tell you that this is not the end of the FDNY on the show. They will be bringing in a new firefighter within the next couple of episodes.. and they are also going to be expanding the roles of the FDNY that is already there.
