They had a piece on saving money on vacation. One of their tips was to rent timeshares from timeshare owners. The said the one woman got a $250 a night room at AKL for $90 by renting Vacation points. When you go online to their site they have a link up for David's point rental. So if you have points rented with him you may have them snapped up faster then you thought.

Yes this is what we did before we bought into DVC. Ninety dollars is much better then two hundred fifty a night :)

This is why I think DVC members sell themselves short by renting points so inexpensively considering what a renter is getting in terms of value. I don't rent my points and I *do* understand why some members need to rent so no argument there and yes, it's all about supply and demand. Meanwhile I hope that those who do need or want to rent points can get a fair value. I thought commercial renting though wasn't allowed,...so is David's point rental a commercial seller or a DVC member who is making money off brokering the points? Sorry if there's a FAQ..I didn't see it.---Kathy

Well, if the person got a value studio in the lowest month this year, that's a 9 point room. 9 points, $90, that's $10 per point, right? Which is about what I've generally seen on the rental board.

Or are you saying that no one should rent them so cheaply? I think it's nice that people do. We were going to go that route to check things out before buying; there was no other way, we were NOT going to pay $250/night for just about anything. Didn't even do that for our honeymoon hotels or even our honeymoon cruise. If everyone raised their rental prices, it wouldn't be the beautiful bargain AND the beautiful gateway to wanting to own your own points that it is now. :)

As chalee said, he just brokers points for other people, when they don't want the bother of doing it on their own.

That's very cheap for AKV's. It would have to have been a value studio. Just not that many to go around. Good advertising though.

My sister is looking into doing this next April. She wants a room at AKL with a Savannah view, it is 13 points a night, but still about half what she would pay direct.

I'm surprised that GMA, i.e., ABC, i.e., Disney would show a segment telling people to rent points at DISNEY instead of buying DVC or going through CRO.

That is a classic example of the right hand not knowing what the left hand is doing.

My thoughts exactly.

Considering a number of people try it once and then buy, I consider it sowing for future reaping without the cost of advertising and because it is a news type program it lends more credibility (in some people's minds) then flat out advertising.

People who are doing Disney on the cheap are not the best DVC candidates. If Disney wants to use ABC to sell DVC, they've missed their target market.
