I thought it was cute, I don't see what all the big fuss was about - I mean, was it really THAT bad? Compared to Sex & The City it's tame, but I guess it IS network TV after all. Anyway, I thought it was cute, I'll check it out again.

I don't see what the big deal about SEX is on TV, when violence is practically applauded people get uptight about something that is natural and beautiful..... I just don't get it.

I agree I don't think Coupling is any worse than friends really. I think they kicked up a fuss about it to try to get people to watch.

Have you ever seen the British version? Just curious. Its one of my favorite shows on tv, and probably because of it I just couldn't stand the american version last night. Must be too used to the British characters.

I are very picky about what I watch, especially with young kids in the house. The view on sex really depends on each individuals religious/moral/value beliefs, not that it is not a beautiful thing. I also do not like to watch anything violent or emotionally abusive. I guess you could say I read a lot of books and I am even very picky on them.

i watched the show last night...i wasn't impressed at first, but by the end, i found it to be rather cute! i plan to check out a few more episodes before i make a final decision about the show...

but i didn't think it was any worse than Friends as far as the whole sex thing goes...

I found the biggest difference between "Friends" and "Coupling" was that "Coupling's" humor was nearly ALL about sex and not much else. "Friends" has sex as PART of the humor, but there's so much more to it.

My DH and I also thought that "Coupling" looked like it was trying too hard, also, especially in the beginning. It sounded more like stand up comedy lines instead of regular, funny conversation, especially between the two guys on the street.

And my DH, having been a Film and Production major in college, found the actual production value very cheesy -- cutting from two people to closeups extremely quickly and making it look like it was shot by amateurs. I noticed it too, but couldn't put my finger on what it was that looked weird, until he pointed that out to me.

I can remember when "Friends" first came on the air, many years ago, I was drawn into each of the characters immediately and they became friends. The characters in "Coupling" are caricatures and seem fake.

I'll take "Friends" any day of the week!

the show picked up toward the end of the show. What I think a problem may be is that some of the cast is very talented whereas some of the others came off pretty weak. But in looking back at some of the first season of "Friends", it was pretty week too.

I agree that the American version the characters seem like they are saying lines. Seriously, if you watch the British version they seem more like people, much more natural, even when some of the lines are exactly the same.

Wouldn't young children be in bed by 9:30? I definitely agree it's not something to watch with kids around, but I guess that's why it's on later at night.

I never saw the British version..... I can't imagine any British tv being all that good :p

Maybe it's just b/c Friends is in the final season this year, that they're trying to make this this new hipper Friends, who knows...... it's very superficial and not the best of shows, but maybe it'll get better. I just don't see why it was banned in some cities, I mean geez it wasn't THAT BAD.

I am a big fan of the British Coupling and was eager to see how the American version would compare. There only a few changes in dialouge, same story line though. The cast of the British version will remain number one for me. There will only ever be one Jeff and he is on the Brit version and he makes the show. His wit is right on the money. After last night's episode, the American Jeff can't do the character justice. And they didn't even let Jeff call Jane unflushable! That's why the whole bathroom scene worked in the British version and was more awkward in American. IMHO - of course!

You'll be surprised how many US shows are based on European (yes, even British) shows :)

I did catch the second half of the show last night, and I found it to be alright. It's hard to judge a show by its first episode because it's usually when all of the characters have to be introduced, leaving little time for anything else. I've never been a fan of sitcoms, but I think I'll try to catch the next few episodes.
