Hello everyone! Does anyone feel like posting their 2 cents about trip insurance? I have to decide by Monday if I am going to purchase it for my vacation. Do you think it's worth it? Can you suggest any good companies? Any info or thoughts are always helpful!

Thanks!

I see no one has responded yet, and I always have "2 cents" to spare, so...I think we have only purchased it once and that was because we have a 2 yr old who, at the time, was prone to ear infections every other month. We have never had to actually USE the insurance, thank goodness and knock on wood. I guess we always take our chances. Sorry I couldn't be of more help, but I didn't want you to get NO responses to your question!

In the past we never got it for domestic trips, but wanted the medical coverage for travel outside the US. But after DH fell ill during a WDW vacation and ended up with a $20K hospital bill, I've gotten insurance every time we travel. (Luckily our health insurance covered the hospital bill, but we lost our DVC points and had to eat the airline penalty and the house call the doctor made to our room at BWV.) We had to use it once for a doctor visit in the Cayman Islands, but that's the only claim we've ever made on travel insurance. It gives me peace of mind to know if the unthinkable happens either before or during a trip, at least we have coverage for it. It's a gamble, but it's a bet I'm always glad to lose. I've always used Travelguard because they have a wide range of coverages so you can tailor your coverage to what you really want, but there are many other companies out there as well.

If you have no medical insurance, or if you don't have medical insurance that covers you away from home, a travel medical policy is a good idea.

Most medical policies cover you away from home, but some don't do it very well.

The policy sold by Disney is not a particularly good policy, and some of the aftermarket policies are less expensive and better coverage.

I don't get it becuase my medical insurance does a good job anywhere in the world, and the majority of the trip is refundable or changeable until right before I travel.

I have found that many organizations are understanding of TRUE emergencies and will do all they can to help you if something goes really wrong.

Mostly it comes down to personal choice and your risk tolerance.

If someone has a medical condition that might be a problem, it might be a good idea to get a policy, but make sure it covers pre-exisiting conditions.
