Hi, I need to make some extra $$. I used to waitress nights at the Outback Steakhouse, and I made good money. I don't want to be away from my family during the evening hours, now that my kids are in school all day. I was a teacher, but then quit to be a SAHM. I am going back as a substitute teacher, but not getting as many days as I would like. I was thinking about waitressing Saturday and Sunday mornings. I wanted to see how many people out there do it, and how much you make? I was thinking about Eat n Park b/c it is close to my house. Any thoughts or other suggestions???

Thanks so much!
Lori

I used to waitress and worked all three shift. Typically, you made the least at breakfast. People tip based on the amount of the bill and breakfast is usually the least expensive meal of the day.

I worked at Cracker Barrel and made pretty good money working breakfast shifts on the weekends. The tips are smaller but people are in and out and aren't lingering like they do for dinner (except for the people who like to sit and drink coffee and read the newspaper for hours). Generally I had to be there about 5:30 a.m. and then the 1st shift was over about 11 a.m. and then you had to do sidework before you could go home (roll silverware, restock things, clean things, etc.) so I would usually be home about 12-1). I made about $200-$300 working both Sat.-Sun. morning in tips (paycheck was about $20 after taxes making $2.15 an hour) but there was never any stopping. It was constant rush and my section of 4 tables was always filled from the time I got there until I left. It made the time go by fast though.

There is a Cracker Barrel by my house. Do they hire people just for weekend breakfast? That would work out great. I really just need to make $100 a week. I would love to work 5:30 till noon!

They did at the one close to me! They're really flexible and love people that want to work on the weekends. The morning shifts were a little harder to get (but I would think that would just depend on the location and employees). It was hard work but I enjoyed making the $$ (but also they weren't very flexible when holidays were on weekends and the employees that regularly worked on weekends wanted off as holidays are extremely busy). I made $400 in tips just working Mother's Day morning and afternoon! (of course, I felt like I needed a vacation after that day though!)

Oh and there was no morning/afternoon/night shifts there. They would have several people come in at 5:30 (they were the first ones to leave) then some at 7:30 (they were second to leave and usually got out by 1-2), then some at 9:30, etc. because it's such a busy restaurant and they can't have the whole entire place transitioning at once.

BTW, I used to work at Outback too! I really liked working there. It was my most favorite restaurant I've ever worked at.

The only holiday I would not be able to work would be Easter b/c my kids wouldn't want to wait till noon or one to see what the Bunny brought them! I really liked the Outback too, but now it is too far from my house. I just picked up an application for the Cracker Barrel. I will fill it out and turn it back in tomorrow! I hope they are hiring for breakfast, b/c that is all I am available to work. My other options are Bob Evans or Eat n' Park.

When I was a waitress many moons ago, I could make nearly as much at breakfast as I could at dinner (lunch was a no go though) but you work twice as hard IMHO. The pace is soooo much quicker, the turnover triple or quadruple that of dinner, no appetizers, just coffee, coffee, coffee:laughing: I have several friends that waitress breakfast now and make great money (usually work 6:30 or 7 to noon), in season somewhere between $150 and $200 and off-season between $60 and $90 or so.
