I just checked my reservation for 9/16-9/23, and the base price went down to $130.95. With the DC discount and the $20 off coupon in the last DC newsletter, my total price is now $120 for an intermediate!

1.5 days to go - yaaaay!!

We usually do not rent a car,but this time my daughter and her botyfrind are wanting to rent a car for 1 day to see his family,my question is where did you get the 20.00 off coupon?I have a Disney Club card and really no very little about renting a car. We're using a towncar for us.Also do you know if any of the car rental company's DO NOT charge extra per day if you are under 25?They are both 21.They are going to Univeral for 2 days are so far are planning to use Mears from the All Stars to get there, but I told them we need to see if renting a car for more than 1 day would be cheaper than paying for Mears to Univeral. We are planning on being there Oct 1-8th.Any help would be great.E-mail me at mickeys_friend@charter.net or mickeys_friend@hotmail.com

In the little book from DC that comes every month (I got mine last week,) there is a coupon for National in this edition.

Also, I couldn't find any company that didn't charge for the under 25 driver. I'm not going to be 25 for a few more months, so I just put the car in my Fiance's name and he'll have to drive the whole time.

Your best bet would be to read the Rental Cars section on Mousesavers, that is how I learned about renting cars with great discounts. If you have DC, use the old contract ID # rather than the new one (National), because it does give you a greater discount.

How do I find out what the old contract # is?Thanks, for your help,I know I got that little book and now I just need to find it.Please e-mail me back.

we never used the WEBk8 product code for our rental this week in st louis......just the DC code and the DC 20$ off coupon.....

but when we view the reservation .....the product code shows up.....so i think that you would get the same price "without" using the product code when renting ....but it might show up when you do a view of your reservation

just tried my ressie again with national...... without and with the Product Rate code.......and NO DC discounts......the "cost" is exactly the same....using the code of not using the code....thus, would say your real savings come from the DC code and DC discount coupons or Entertainment coupons used in conjunction with the DC code

maybe it is market specific.....or "dates" specifif

just tried our novemeber dates....2 - 9 and with and without the "webk8" the price is 230$

when i plug in the disney club and coupon codes it drops to 166$

just tried a ressie for september 16 - 23

without the code it comes up 347$

with the product rate code 347$
( this is skewed i think though since the rental is for TODAY )

september 20 -27 without code 236$ with code 236$

of course if i plugged in the dc and dc coupon it will go down more....but i did not try that.....was just concentrating on the "product rate" code

so you got a good rate......not everyone will get the same .....luck was with you this time....smilawgs

We are driving down from the DC area and decided to see how much it would cost to rent a car rather than drive our own. I used product rate code WEBK8 and contract ID 5760339, along with a coupon from the Entertainment book for a two class upgrade.

From Dulles airport, these combined gave me a full size car for nine days for $230 total (including taxes). I don't know if it will work in Orlando, but I highly recommend trying that combo of discounts.

is it guaranteed with National? I remember being told that upgrades are not guaranteed, so you are better off using the $ off coupons. We are going 14 days (rental appears as 13 days), and I have two ressies- mid size at 256., or full size at 303., both including taxes. This is for 10/7-10/20. Is it even worth it to keep checking as we get closer?

Well, frannn, it may all end in tears but it seems as guaranteed as it can get. What I did was enter all of the codes, including coupon code, and selected "intermediate" as the kind of car requested, then hit the "get rate quote" button. When the rate quote came back, it had automatically changed it to full size.

The reservation confirmation also says full size right on it, with no mention of the coupon or "subject to availability" or anything. Also, if I recall correctly, the coupon doesn't say anything about subject to availability. I figure that will give me good ammunition for an argument at the counter if they try to give me grief.

You are correct that most upgrade coupons require you to get to the counter and hope, but this one seems special. If you have an Entertainment book, give it a shot.

I have 303. for a full size with DC, and 256 for mid (with 20. coupom) Using Ent coupon, it is coming up as about 356. What's bugging me is that when I called National to inquire if I could use an Entertain coupon with a different co contract ID (like DC), they said no. I could have probably gotten a full size for the cost of what I have a mid size for. It would've been about 280, cause I would have to give up DC coupon. I'll keep trying. Maybe the rate will go down at the last minute, since I'm not actually renting from MCO.

Frann,
They always tell you you cannot combine over the phone, but, the computer allows it. If you have your printout, they have to honor it. Many of us have been combing for years and have had no problems.

Where are you actually renting from? And, there is a chance the rate will change.

because I am going to Boca before driving on to WDW. I should have tried the Ent rate and coupon in combo with the DC contract before. I'll be sure to keep trying both until we go.

If memory serves, the disclaimer is in tiny itsy bitsy print at the bottom, just like all the ones from BJ's, Sam's, Costco, etc. National usually has plenty of stuff on hand, so, I would not worry.

This is what National says about upgrades. From this I gather if it takes it it means there is availability.

Upgrade
Vehicle car category higher than the one charged.
Offered at time of rental depending on car availability (additional charge may apply).
To enter an upgrade coupon for an Internet reservation, first enter the car class you wish to be charged for, then enter the Coupon ID number. The reservation system will automatically determine if the coupon is valid for that rental.

also, you do have to go to the counter for this type of coupon.

I have a mini van reserved for November and tried the WEBK8 code and the price went up about $150. Then I noticed on the nationalcar.com website that they have an AmEx special right now. I used that code and the price dropped almost $50 to $229 for a mini van for 7 days (it is $286 after taxes, etc.). I was pleased.

I don't have a DC membership because I understand that DC will soon be discontinued. Can I still use the old or the new DC code, or is this a formula for problems?

Thanks!

It could be if you don't have a card and they ask for it.

Interestingly enough, this thread is the first I had heard of the WEBK8 code. I went to try changing my previous ressie to see what effect the code would have and it was already there. I know I did not put it in when I made the ressie a couple of months ago. They must automatically add it.

Now that I've looked at it, the coupon does say in tiny print on the back that it is subject to availability, but then again it also says it may not be combined with other offers or discounts, and we know that's not true.

Like I said, this may go bad, but I feel confident that a full size will be available because that's what the reservation is for. Also, I've never seen National blink an eye at my reservations (I've never even needed to show the printout) and I've gotten some truly ridiculous deals on rental cars from this board and Mary's Mousesavers site.

also, you do have to go to the counter for this type of coupon.

Yes, you do, according to the coupon. In fact, the reservation site forced me to change service level from emerald reserve to counter in order to get the coupon upgrade accepted for the reservation.

That said, the last time I went to the counter with a National coupon they just patted me on the head and told me to go get my car and give the coupon to the booth attendant. Still, I'm not taking any chances, I'll head to the counter first.
