Anyone use the Nikon ML-L3 Remote Control Transmitter?

I ordered one of these from buy.com today for $13. Here is my question: do any of you have this transmitter and is it easy to set up/use? I want to use it to take pictures of my girls cheerleading, night shots on the tripod, family pictures without having to set a timer, and of course, Disney fireworks.

Is it dummy proof, so to speak?

It's pretty dummy proof and for the most part, seems to work great for everyone who has it. I think I got a dud, because I hated mine---but I'm sure I'm in the minority and would no way try to steer you towards another remote, because for the money it's really worth a shot.

Getting it to work is pretty trivial. We don't use it much, but it was working for us in under 5 minutes. Have the camera manual handy. Most of the time was spent in the manual.

The only thing I ran into was that after a certain period, the camera goes to sleep and won't respond to the remote. Touching the shutter release is enough to wake the camera. I remember the default setting put the camera to sleep too early, and in the menu you could bump it up to 10 minutes.

I'm pretty happy with it, we just haven't had a chance to use it much yet.

LOL, I figured I spend more at Starbucks a week in coffee than that transmitter. I've been looking at them for a while and decided to try buy.com. I figured I'd jump on that price, as I've ordered from them before and have been pleased.

I have one for each of my cameras. I keep them right on the camera strap with the little case they come with. They are very easy to use and nice to have but I don't have the need to use them very often. There is no real set up involved. They come ready to use. You just have to adjust the timer button to the remote icon and you are set to go. I'm pretty sure, tho, you need to be in front or to the side of the camera for it to work.

This is true so watch it if you are using a wide angle... I come up and underneath it for that lens...

I use my remote quite frequently... I used it for firework displays last month at WDW so I didn't touch the camera... My remote works from behind aswell as to the side or in front... You will like it!

Yeah, the remote is really easy to use. Not that the Nikon version is expensive, but you can pick up an off brand for like $4 shipped. At that price, it's worth it to have a backup.

very simple to use. works like a charm (at least it does with my Nikon D50). Not sure how the newer models are set up, but with the D50 there is a button on top that you press to switch from regular mode to self time mode and to remote shutter mode.

Just be sure your pointing it at or in the general vacinity of the front of the camera as that is were the infrared sensor is. If your standing behine the camera you will have to reach around slightly towards the front to get it to work. You can play around with it to figure out where you can and can't stand to get it to work. Mine also worked from at least 20' away. IIRC, it should work from up to 30' away.
