Need a hip carrier for 2-3 year old boy... read on another thread that the sutemi is ok, any opinions? I only plan as hip carrier. thanks.

I don't think it can be used on the hip can it??? I would say the best for a hip carry is a pouch style carrier. there is also the MT hip carrier at www.ellaroo.com looks very nice and comfy but a quicker up and down would be the pouch style carrier www.hotslings.com HTH! :)

I have a Sutemi. It can be used as a hip carrier apparently, but I've never done it, and I don't think you can do it with a 2 year old. Speaking from a health standpoint, I don't think that most adults should carry an average size child over the age of 12-18 months in anything that doesn't balance their weight across both shoulders for long periods of time.

I have a 2 year old who wears 4's and 5's. He's about 35 pounds and 38 inches. I can carry him in my Sutemi. I don't know how long I could do it. I also have a one year old, so I obviously usually sling him and have the 2 year old walk.

My biggest problem with carrying my 2 year old on the front of me is his height. He has a long torso, and I have a short torso. Having him be nose-to-nose with me is kind of odd. DH wears him on his back in the Sutemi, which is perfect. I just don't like to wear it that way because you have to cross the straps in the front, and since I'm nursing, I don't need the extra attention in that area. ;)

I was all ready to buy the Sutemi, but I wanted to try it out first because I wasted $40 last summer buying a sling online that I didn't like. The Sutemi is about $80, so I didn't want to be stuck with something I didn't like. I found a baby specialty store (the closest one was in Madison, WI...two hours from my home, but we were driving through on our way home from MN) through the Sutemi website that carried the product. I can't remember exactly what I thought about the Sutemi, but I ended up trying a couple more carriers out and fell in love with the Babytrekker (which isn't a hip carrier) instead.

So what's my point...I've heard a lot of great things about the Sutemi, but if you have the opportunity to try it out along with other carriers before buying it, you might find one that fits you and your child's needs better.

Just my two cents!

I use my maya wrap sling with dd who is 2 but she is on light side at only 26-27 lbs. She loves it. I'm using it in the airport and will also use in parks with her in addition to stroller.
