i took my sony reader on our cruise in may. it was great, the only thing I had worried about - that i wouldn't worry so much about with a book was leaving it places. Like if I wanted to take a dip in the pool I would have to go back to the room and put the reader away first. I guess I could have risked it and put a towel over it or something but I was just too worried. Other than that it worked out perfect. my SO would fall asleep in a lounge chair and i would read for a while.
I love my Sony Reader! I used to go have to pack many books on my vacations (usually one per day plus an extra or two for additional choices). Now I just make sure my Sony Reader is loaded up (with purchased stuff plus I get to borrow 6 e-books at a time from my local library system) before I leave.
For Kindle users, just make sure you load your Kindle with books before you leave. The Whispernet won't work outside the U.S.
do most libraries let you "borrow" ebooks? How does it work--I'm new to all the ebook business
A positive part of the sony reader is that on the Overdrive Ebook system, you can take out ebooks from your local library and load them to the sony reader for free!
