Anyone use Ginger capsules for motion sickness?

Did you try ginger capsules but they didn't work? We leave in 3 weeks and I would like to try something for my motion sickness. I get extremely car sick when I'm not the driver and I always feel a little sick after space mountain. This has kept me from riding RNRoller coaster and Mission Space. I really want to ride RNR this trip. I'll probably never ride Mission space (I'm a wimp). I'm thinking of buying ginger capsules or sea bands. What's your preference?
Thanks!

Neither worked for me. I use Dramamine Less Drowsy, which doesn't make me sleepy at all. Most people here prefer Bonine, but that made me very jittery. Try whatever you want to use at home first and make sure it works. I tried the ginger capsules once and I was confident they were going to work, but after a half-hour of riding around, that feeling started and I know I was in trouble. I know some people have posted before that ginger has helped them, so hopefully it will work for you too. Nothing worse than feeling sick when you're supposed to having a good time!

I have tried the ginger without much success, I too use the Dramamine Less Drowsy and it seems to do the job.

We tried the ginger capsules for DD. They dint work she can only use dramamine also she always rides RNR coaster sis ok on mission space but wont try it again

I'm another fan of the Dramamine Less Drowsy.
I get terribly motion sick. Dramamine in the regular form makes me feel very sleepy and gives me an awful dry mouth feeling, but the less drowsy formula was great.
We relied on Disney busses to get around. In the morning I'd take one Less Drowsy Dramamine. It worked all day. Not once did I feel even the slightest bit sick.

All the postings about MS made me nervous so I took the ginger capsules for 2 weeks before our trip. Spinny rides can make me feel sick and light headed but I really wanted to try everything.

MS didn't bother me at all (great ride) but who knows - I may have been one of the people who it doesn't bother.

I use Dramamine or Bonine. They work well. I find seabands and ginger to be very unreliable.

I haven't used ginger capsules since I'm allergic to ginger! It's lethal! :earseek: But I have heard that Dramamine works very well. I'd give that a try.

I get sick on spinning rides but I had to ride MS space with my son...You know them sad eyes kids give ya....Anyway I took Ginger tablets and they worked for me...No problems...I also heard eating a Bananna before something like that helps so I also did that about a hour ealier...Not sure if it was one or both that help but I had no side effects...

Banana contains potassium which lowers blood pressure which can be caused by nervousness....hence the banana worked somewhat for you.

I cannot read in a car without feeling ill, but I have noticed that if I drink ginger ale while reading in the car I'm ok. I wouldn't rely upon it for whirly rides though if they make you ill. Definitely experiment with bonamine or dramamine less drowsy before you go so that you can make sure there are no side affects for you BEFORE you get to Disney. Then enjoy!!

Thanks you all for your replies! I leave in 3 weeks so I'll have to hit the store to give some of these options a try.
Thanks again!

I take Motion Mate made by Natures Way. It is ginger with a few other herbs. It really works for me. I have to order it over the internet -none of the stores here carry it anymore. Just make sure you take them with plenty of water -they can burn if not washed all the way down. I have tried everything. Dramamine less drowsy works for me but makes me drowsy! I also have a prescription for Compazine which works and only lasts 6 hours so at least I don't have a full 24 hours of sleepiness. I took Compazine last time to go on Star Tours -worked for the most part I had to close my eyes a couple of times but after I got off I was fine. I usually take Motion Mate during the trip and if I start not feeling well will switch to Compazine. I also take the Compazine at night when I need to sleep. I often wake up the night of travel feeling sick. I guess I have a delayed reaction!

I'm pretty much the same way. I've been unable to enjoy any trip up until about 4 years ago. My doctor gave me a script for scopamine patch. You put it behind your ear, lasts 72 hours, and is waterproof. I rode a 2000 mile trip, RNR, SM, TMR, and every thing else the world has to offer, and couldn't believe I never got sick. I didn't get drowsy or nervous. I changed the patch every 72 hours, (alt. ear). I don't have any medical problems, so I don't know if there are any contraindications. The script costs about $25.00 for 4 patches, without insurance. I've used it every since, and it's a sure thing for me !

I'd take one at night before bed (in case of any drowsiness) and was good for 24 hours. Rode RNR twice! Now I just gotta work on opening my eyes ;)

I am a fan of Bonine, but it can make you sleepy. I'm not sure if they offer a less-drowsy formula. I have also tried eating some ginger snap cookies with great success. Also, saltine crackers may help - but they must contain at least some salt; the unsalted are not as helpful.
