Anyone use Continental out of Newark lately?

How is Newark Airport with the added security? Does Continental still have curb side check-in? Wondering if the lines are super long and if 2 hours before flight will be enough time. We fly at the end of Nov. and am starting to get nervous. The airline already canceled our flight and we had to reschedule earlier in the day.

Hi! Just got back from a trip from NH to Seattle and back. We actually changed planes and had a layover in Newark. We did not actually go through the security in Newark, but we did go through the security at those other airports.

I feel getting to the airport 2 hours early should give you plenty of time. When I say getting to the airport, I mean walking up to the ticket counter. Sometimes when I drive down to the airport, I forget about all that time it takes to park and then take a shuttle in from a satelite lot. Sometimes that takes 25 minutes alone, so plan that in.

The extra time we have to take for increased security is well worth it. You cannot take on anything sharp as a carryon. All bags are subject to search. For all people except maybe 1% of us there is really no substantial change.

Hope that answers your questions, have a fun trip!

Tom.

Just editting the reply to add: make sure you keep checking your flight reservations. Flight times are subject to change as well as just cancelling the flight. One of our flights was moved up by an hour, so checking often as you get close to your departure date is wise.

We leave from Newark next Wednesday 10/31 and are flying Continental. As far as I know there is still no curb side check in. The agent on the phone told us to be there 2 hours prior but, with the way things are going, we're going to get there with more time than that.

We flew out Sun. night for MCO. Arrived 2 hours early, checked bags at curbside (yes it has reopened). Showed my ID four times:
-at curbside check-in
-prior to getting in line for the gate check
-at the gate check (State Troopers were working alongside the scanners)
-as we boarded the plane

It took us about 15 minutes to get through check-in, so we had a ton of time in the airport. I issue a big warning here. Newark Airport has expanded their shop facilities tremendously. We ended up shopping and spending lots of money.

The food service has also been greatly expanded and the options are quite good. We ended up eating in the Jersy Diner, food and service were quite good and not severely overpriced.

Finally the point of the last post should be well heeded, there is still much construction going on in the airport and traffic often comes to a stop.
