Anyone use Bare Minerals Escentuals products?

Wow, glad to see this post resurrected from a long time ago when I started it. I've been using BE for a little over 6 months now, I did replenish my mineral veil & foundation & also purchased more clear radiance.

I'm really pale & got the light/fairly light combo, the light is actually a little too dark on me so I mixed the 2 colors together for the summer & they are perfect.

I also used an empty container & mixed some clear radiance with my mineral veil & have been completed on how "fresh" I look, lol!

Used these when we were on vacation (just back on the 2nd) at WDW in over 90 degree heat and over 90% humidty and only touched up my face before dinner. The mineral veil really controlled the shine, and I do have combo skin.

Ok, for fun I just googled "best mineral makeup"... and WOW! what a ton of sites! I did this around Christmas last year,05, and there was only 2 or 3 different companies... but this time I found a ton!

So I thought some of you might like to look and see what is out there, and do a little more reading. I guess I need to add that I have only tried BM and the Laurien minerals, and like both... but I have just ordered a ton of samples...
Anyway here are a few sites to get you all going....

http://www.lushbrush.com/

http://www.ultimate-skin-care-tips.com/best-mineral-make-up.html ( this one looks to be the cheapest.. not fancy, but fun..)

I did find a few more, but they looked a little fly by night/ kitchen sink. I really want to order one of the kits that let you mix your own makeup.. guess it proves some of us never grow up!

Hope some of you look at the sites and let us know what you think, and if /when the samples I ordered get here I will post how they do in comparision to my BE/BM stuff..

I was visiting a friend in Michigan last month who uses Bare Minerals, and I was impressed by how good the make up made her skin look. When she told me how much it cost, I thought it was too expensive, but I keep remembering how good it looked and now I'd really like to give it a try. Amazon.com had good prices but they don't ship to Canada. I looked at some local stores and found some Physician's Formula, which seemed pretty good but doesn't cover as well as I would like.

Does anyone know if you can buy the Bare Minerals at any Canadian stores?

I see they also have a store in Mississauga, not too far from me, so I might go there and take a look at the options. I really appreciate you letting me know about this site!

Hi Girls ~~ sorry to bring this thread back up but I had posted on it a couple weeks ago with some questions, and I wanted to update! ~

I decided to order the $60 kit from Sephora, and I went with fairly light/light. I was worried because I thought I may need Medium, especially in summer.

Anyway, I got the kit yesterday, along with bisque and glee. I absolutely LOVE this stuff!! The light kit is PERFECT for me!

I watched the how-to DVD (I don't get QVC here so this was the first I'd seen) and it was so fun to watch!

So this morning I put it all on..WOW I like the way it feels & looks!
I put on (in this order) mineral veil, bisque under eyes & on eye lids, foundation (light), warmth (tiny tiny amount), glee as blush, then mineral veil again. It didn't really take that long, then I finished up with my normal eyeshadows, mascara, etc.

I put it all on at about 8:00 AM, and its almost 2pm now...this looks great!
If anything I under applied it because I was worried about over application. The brushes are super soft, too.

My ONLY two complaints if you want to call it that, is that the bisque didn't do much for me as a concealer yet. I don't have very bad skin, but do have slight bluish /dark circles and I didn't think it covered those too well. Maybe I am doing it wrong....

And the other thing is the brushes seem to be shedding quite a bit, I had to pick them out of the brush as I went along & they were on the sink, etc. Not too many but enough for me to notice. Hopefully it will stop once I use them more.

Next time I put it on, I will probably do a slightly heavier application, especially of warmth & glee. I went really light on those.

I haven't tested the fairly light on my skin yet because light seems to be perfect! I am amazed. I may wear fairly light in the winter when my face has less summer color.

Okay, I'm done with my LONG post but wanted to tell you ladies how it is working out! :sunny:

One more thing about the Bisque: I will try it again as a concealer, but I usually use Benefit Boi-ing under my eyes, and I may still use that since it works so well for me. Another product of Benefits that I will still probably use is Lemon-aid on myeyelids.
I like the color of bisque as a shadow, too, so if nothing else I will use it like that.

the Bisque does nothing for me as a concealer. Nice on the eyelids as a base, but what works best for me as a concealer is just the regular foundation applied with the concealer brush, before applying all over foundation with the kabuki brush.

and for colors - don't forget that you can mix the Light and Fairly Light - in the winter I used about 2/3 Fairly Light and 1/3 Light, now in the summer I'm using just the Light. I love how you can custom blend your own perfect color!

Hey Great! I am glad you liked it, Be careful with warmth, a little goes a lOOOng way. Also, your brushes will "shed" the first couple of times and then be fine. Bisque will cover almost anything, but I have discovered that you have to "load up the brush" before it works very well, that will come with use. I love wearing my minerals, especially to the parks, because even with humidity you still look half decent at the end of the day.

Happy Blending :goodvibes

my2cinderellas,

LOVE the dresses for dd's Did you make?? :thumbsup2

Yep - I made the Cinderella dresses. Glad you like them! We got lots of compliments and "where did you get those?" comments that day at the MK. Found the fabric at Walmart a year ago right after I booked our trip, and picked up 6 yards not knowing exactly what I would do with it. Needed the whole 6 yards too, there's a buttload of fabric in those tiers, the bottom hem is 11 feet in diameter, and it took a little extra to line up the "cinderella" images.

The Princess Aurora dresses were a Costco special. Turned out to be itchy and not good to wear very long. I had to bribe the girls to wear them to the Princess Tea. The Cinderella sun dresses were much more comfy!

to keep this post on topic- BE works great on little girls for dance recital makeup too! Very easy to apply with the brushes instead of trying to smear liquid foundation around...

I haven't read all the posts so sorry if this was already mentioned. Does anyone know if Sephora does makeovers with Bare Escentuals? I was there the other day and was looking at the BE starter kit for $60.00. I would like to see it on my face and have a professional show me how to apply it right and which color looks the best on me before I get it. DD was rushing me to go to Build-A-Bear so I didnt get a chance to ask a saleperson if they could make up my face. Also do you need to make an appointment to get it done and does it cost anything? Is the BE starter kit all I would really need or do you recommend getting something else with it? Sorry for all the questions. TIA.

I use BE on my DD for recitals too! I do not know if they do makeovers. Good question. If you have Ulta 3 in your area. You may want to buy one jar and try that. I really think application is an individual thing. The starter does come with a how to tape. :sunny:

I don't know if Sephora does free makeovers, but I know that Ulta does.
I had been using BE for a long time, but wanted to try some colors of eye makeup and blush before b uying them. I did need to make an appointment, but it was free.
I have seen a couple of people getting makeovers at Ulta and did nottice that some of the demonstrators do a better job than others. The one that was working while I was waiting (and then went off-duty) was excellent. The one I got put way too much makeup on me and didn't buff it in very well (possibly because she used a damp brush and put one layer on damp to 'even your tone'. Then she put a layer of dry. If that was my first introduction to BE, I would not have liked it much. The way she put it on, it was thick and cakey looking. The colors she picked for me were good though - I just washed it off when I got home and reapplied it better.

At the BM store in Orlando last week there was a lot of people asking the same thing... I have splochy red/freckles/white skin... and the girls next door are part Chinesse/Amer.Indian/White and they tan well. We all 3 can use the same foundation! I use light/fairly light. The lady that did my makeup had a much darker skin tone, Spanish?, and more olive, but she also used fairly light /med sometimes...
So as long as you come even a little close to your skin tone you should be fine. Also you can call them, look online for #'s, and ask them for info. One of the ladies working there was a beautifull dark mocha/black skin tone and she said she has used the 3 darkest shades at various times... I would have said only the darkest one. But on that day she had on the 3rd lightish of the dark shades. You couldn't tell! It really, really blends! She was also beautfull, and looked like she had perfect skin... but said it was combo/oil/very dry!

If you can get into one of the stores that carry this stuff go in and have them do a makeover, it is free, fun and addictive! Wish I could sell it at home!

I was also told that you can add water to any of the products. I asked because I do a lot of theater productions, all the costumes, and most makeup really can ruin a costume. So I started using the BM on my DS when he is in a production, and on the characters with non washable costumes...
The saleslady said to add water or there waterproof stuff to make a base for stage makeup. And she said sometimes she also adds water to the foundation to really conceal face "flaws". But to do so in a small dish/plate with a makeup sponge wedge thing or a different brush then the one you use for powder appliation...

Hi Girl-

I see that we have something else in common........

Congratulations! How long have you been 'using'?

Off and On for about 1 1/2 years now....
I just got a big order of samples from Monave Minerals... talk about tiny... but it was cheap and they have a ton of different colors, some very close to BE. I'll let you know the next time I see you how I like/or dislike them.( and the rest of the DIS)!

BTW, just booked my 50th B'day at WDW- my BGF from SanDiego is going to go with me for her first (adult) trip to the world! It has been over 30 years since she went! So I am also going to take her to the BE store at the mall, and then over to MouseSurplus... wish they both had sales going on then.

However since it will be MY birth month I will be able to get the BE B'month discount! Yea me!

And did you know that we have an Ulta store in Mt.P Towne Center?!? With DH gone this week I think I need to go over there and check this out.....!!! Leave me at home with 2 over sized boys!

My BGF and I visited the Ulta store in Mt. Pleasant the week of the 4th. We were at the beach and made the trip for her to go there as she was jealous of my BM.
They matched her very well and did a great job. They should thank me as she spent way too much. :yay:

Have fun as they had a great selection of products.

Thanks, BYRD, for the "Trip Report", good to know it is worth a visit ! It is only 30 or so min. from home for me, and I still haven't made it over there! Maybe this week... I don't need anything, well, maybe a new eyeshadow..... or 2, or 4.... and lipstick. And mascarra...
AND an overpaying job for $$$ to pay for all of this, and the WDW trips, too! I don't even wear it everyday, only a few times a week, but it is sooooo fun!

Where is the best (meaning cheapest) place to buy a Kabuki Brush? It sounds like this is what I need to apply my BE products. I have the nice face brush that comes with the kit, but I don't like the way it feels/moves over my face. Also, where can I get one of those travel brushes some of you have mentioned...where you can fill the brush and take it with you? I'd love to get these two items! :thumbsup2

Just curious, is anyone using the Rare Minerals that just came out from Bare Escentuals? I got a free sample at Ulta, and I like it but there isn't enough in there to find out if it is going to work or not. Rare Minerals is a powder that you wear at night and it is supposed to help big pores and wrinkles. The only thing - it is $60!
