I just heard of Rescue Remedy. Has anyone ever used it for stress/anxiety and does it work for you? What is best to use - the spray, gum, pastilles...?

Do you mean Bach's Rescue Remedy which is distilled from flower extracts? I used to take the drops under the tongue years ago, when my life was really stressed out. It definitely has a calming effect. It's not like taking a Valium, but like a 100X megadose of camomile tea. :cloud9:

I tried to use the no-alcohol, pet version for my cat a few years ago, before we went traveling. But, I couldn't get her to take any. She could have really used it on that trip. :headache:

It works, just not "bam! Feel it!" It is a very gradual effect, then after a while you realize that your stress levels have lessened.
I've also used the pet formula for my hyper terrier while traveling.

Yes, that's the one! I should put that in the title.

I was wondering, how long does the calming effect last?

I read about the spray but at Whole Foods and Fresh Market they have it available in other forms, too. I think the pastilles or gum would be good for traveling, flying, etc. But, I don't know if the spray works best.

I Googled it and found this link to Dr. Oz talking about it - he says his whole family takes it: http://www.doctoroz.com/videos/dr-ozs-homeopathic-remedy-stress-relief

My special-needs daughter gets on crying jags that she cannot stop on her own. We give her a couple of drops in a few ounces of water, and she can gradually come down from her peak. It's gotten so that even having a glass of water triggers her to calm down some and ask for the drops if we haven't given them already. I have the gum in my purse if I have a panic attack while driving - I can't take the medication i've been prescribed and still drive. So far, it didn't work that well for me, but the drops have on occasion helped me over the rattled feeling I get before a full blown attack.

They only work if you really believe in them. Save your money. Controlled double-blind studies do not show efficacy beyond the placebo effect.

See, for example,

Bach flower remedies: a systematic review of randomised clinical trials.
Ernst E.
Bach flower remedies continue to be popular and its proponents make a range of medicinal claims for them. The aim of this systematic review was to critically evaluate the evidence for these claims. Five electronic databases were searched without restrictions on time or language. All randomised clinical trials of flower remedies were included. Seven such studies were located. All but one were placebo-controlled. All placebo-controlled trials failed to demonstrate efficacy. It is concluded that the most reliable clinical trials do not show any differences between flower remedies and placebos.

I use the cream every night on my feet and legs to help me sleep. I have a lot of pain and it does work.

I'm figuring it can't hurt. I'm gonna get some and give it a try. Even if it is just in my head, if it helps that would be great.

Sure, and opium poppies have no opiate effect because they are flowers and neither does marijuana as it is only a weed. ;)

The studies in question were looking specifically at bach flower remedies. The sentence you highlight is taken out of context from the PubMed abstract. They were controlled, peer-reviewed, double blind studies looking at those particular type of remedies. They say nothing about botanically-derived compounds as a whole.
