Anyone use a GPS while in Disney World?

We had a terrible time last year finding resorts even with signs posted everywhere. We stayed at POFQ and it seemed like we could never find our way back and forth.

Does anyone use a GPS to get from resort to resort for dining purposes?

Last year I recall getting lost finding The Grand Floridian and the Wilderness Lodge once we ended up at the Disney school!

Is there a listing of addresses so that I can program them into my system before we arrive?

I used the GPS on my Verizon phone and what I found was that the GPS works somewhat but since you are on private property the street names aren't there. For instance it would tell me turn right on Epcot or Magic Kingdom - it was okay but I wasn't thrilled with it - I eventually stopped using it b/c I know my way around and found it was taking me the long way a lot of times!

we used ours to get in..it got us lost looking for ASMO..after that we followed the signs we parked the car and used disney transportation. I know with ours we could download updates to it, maybe try that before you leave.

Thanks for the suggestion!

Friend of ours used a GPS trying to get to the GF and it tried to get them to use a restricted road (CM only).

I've used the Neverlost from Hertz in their Prestige Vehicles and found it fairly accurate in navigating around. The biggest challenge was the restricted roads, but it would just update after I drove past them to find the correct route.

DH uses GPS, it works for us sometimes and others it doesn't. I try to pay special attention to the street name and notice some detail especially on the turns we take. Also, look at the back of the map they give you at the resort for the general vicinity of the hotels. The first time we stayed at POP, we had a heck of a time trying to find our way back late at night. On our subsequent stays. it was much better. POFQ can be tricky too..... I feel your pain.

Hi, We were there in November and used our Garmin (which is a couple of years old at this point) and had no problem getting around Disney World and offsite with it. My DH was in Orlando last month and used his new Garmin while on a golf trip and, while trying to find Champion's Gate, ended up at a swamp. :lmao: So YMMV!

Oh no! I think we will have an easier time this trip. For some reason we just couldn't get the hang of where pOFQ was located.

We took our Tom Tom 330 and had a problem with it not being able to "find a GPS signal". Tom Tom service was no help at all. They just told us to try to reboot.

I think the key to finding the resorts it to know which park they're close to or sort of associated with. For example, Animal Kingdom Lodge, Pop Century, & Coronodo Springs are Animal Kingdom resorts, so you need to follow signs to Animal Kingdom and once you get closer, there will be signs for the specific resorts.

Another examle is that Yacht & Beach Club & Boardwalk Inn are Epcot resorts.

We've driven ourselves on every WDW trip in my sig, and we really just follow signs instead of looking for specific streets. We do have a WDW overview map, so we do have an idea of where things are in general.

I have a Megellan Crossover and had absolutely no problems getting around DW with it. I actually found a Publix closer to OKW than the one I used to go to.

we used our garmin nuvi for both of our trips last year and had no problem. The Gps works great. I really like the fact that it tells you how far to your next turn, and an ETA. It's like a disney countdown when I drive to the parks.

If you use your GPS PLEASE don't leave it sitting happily on the dash. Pixie dust will NOT protect it and it may very well be GONE when you return.

Think about it, thieves love to steal these things. If you were a thief wanting to get a cache of these where would you go? Me, I would go to some big tourist parking lot where they are all lost and think "Mickey" is protecting them! (And there have been reports of them taken from cars in Disney parking lots!)

We are having tons of reports of them being stolen in our local area. Don't worry. I'd never leave it in view. It hides in my car right now. Boy did it ever come in handy for us last Sat. We had a wedding and had no idea how to get there. It took us though many residential areas but it sure did get us there!
