Anyone up for another "What are you reading" thread?

Lets see.. I read some some interesting ones last week.

Standing in the Shadow of History by Joseph Petro. This is about a person as he progressed in his career with the Secret Service. Very interesting reading as well as a great history lesson. The persons career began in the late 60's and continued on until the late-mid 90's. It had some very interesting facts as well as an insight on how hard the Secret Service works.

Without a Net: Middle class and homeless with kids by Michelle Kennedy. This was an intriguing read about a woman who through a poor marriage, wound up homeless in a resort town in Maine. It tells of her struggles, her triumphs, and her poor mistakes during this year. It is a fast read and very enlightening.

Right now "Voices Carry" by Mariah Stewart and last night I finished "Mr. Perfect" by Linda (?) Howard. I flew through Mr. Perfect (good romantic/suspense/psychological book) and I really like Mariah Stewart, so I'm sure I'll enjoy this one too. :)

"How To Be Like Walt" - by far the best book about Walt Disney I've ever read - and I think I've read most everything out there. :cool1:

I love these threads as well
I am in a bookclub-it gives me great ideas for future suggestions (we take turns picking)
We are getting ready to start "The Kitchen Boy" it is a fiction based on fact type book about the eye witness accounts of the Kitchen boy in the last Tsar of Russia's household who witnessed their execution (what a long sentence!)

I'm reading The First American: The Life and Times of Benjamin Franklin. It's very interesting!

I'm a little behind I know, but I'm reading The Lifeguard by James Patterson.

When people ask for book ideas, I always reccomend this book 'cause it's really good. It's called The Sight & it's by David Clement-Davies. A quick review from Amazon:

The Sight features a Transylvanian wolf clan faced with the terrifying changes brought about by Morgra, a bitter she-wolf determined to fulfill an ancient legend in order to have supreme power over all Vargs (wolves). Young Larka, a white wolf pup born with the Sight, embarks with her brother Fell and the rest of her family on an extraordinary quest for truth and salvation, with shocking consequences that even the most astute reader may not foresee.

Girl in Hyacinth Blue - don't know the author, but i read this a few weeks ago and it was fabulous. paperback, short quick read. It is about a painting and basically traces backwards from owner to owner as the reader finds out whether it is authentic or not

Eldest by Christopher P....something. This one is just out but the first book in the series is Eragon which is in paperback. Fantasy genre whose author is now just 21. Just finished it and am enjoying the series.
Also rereading The third Janet Evanovich book. these are a fun read!

Clarabelle, we're reading The Kitchen Boy in November - it looks great! Next month we're reading The Kite Runner - has anyone finished this? I started it but realized I will miss the October meeting (taking younger DD11 to WDW for fall break - yeah!!!) so I might not finish it

Before that book, I read "Don't Stop the Carnival" by Herman Wouk. An excellent book about a New York Broadway agent who decides to move to a Carribbean island and buy and run an old hotel. His misadventures are a riot, kind of in a "Walter Mitty" sort of way. It's humorous but also a little melancholy.

OT, but there's a Jimmy Buffet CD and stage show at Atlantis based on this book. I'm glad to hear the book itself is good. I'll have to check it out.

I just finished The Devil Wears Prada - and let me just say that I am really glad to not be working in fashion or magazines or with a tyrant of a boss....

Most of my reading is historical fiction and adventure novels. If it's a book about the plague, chances are I own it ;)

Did you read Year of Wonders, Crankyshank? That's one of my all-time favorites.

I was going to get the new Outlander book, but I think I'd rather bring paperbacks - easier to fit in the carryon and easier to conceal when I need to sneak away from the in-laws ;)
So what are you reading?

No help here because I AM reading the new Outlander book and it's fabulous. I'm trying to read it slowly to make it last but I kept sneaking upstairs all weekend to read "just a bit more." :teeth: DH said that he knew where I'd snuck off to anytime it got really quiet.

Next on deck is a book called "The Queen and I" by Sue Townsend. She wrote the Adrian Mole books (which I adore) and this one is a satire in which the British Queen and royal family are kicked out of the monarchy, forced into a council estate and onto the dole. A friend lent it to me and I'm looking forward to it.

Hope you have a great trip!

I am reading a book called Sick Puppy by Carl Hiassen. I find his books very funny. He's from South Florida somewhere and all of his books are based in Florida.

Was very tempted to pick up the new John Irving book at BJ's the other night, perhaps next time...

I'm also reading a Jane Green book, I think it's called "The Other Woman". On deck to read next is "The Judge" by Steve Martini.

Just finished Timeline by Michael Crichton. Now reading Plato's Symposium.
