Anyone tried the new, "The Wave," in Contemporary??

I am curious about this restaurant as well. I really want to try the antioxidant cocktail. I love acai juice. Does anyone know if this cocktail is available anywhere else?

What I hear so far, very few people like it. We will be there on Sept 8th, we're going with an open mind, but just happy to be at WDW!

If so, what did you think? What's it comparable to?

The PodCast has a review of it and they raved about their experience. I think most people are prejudging it based on the menu and the efforts to actually offer healthy cuisine at Disney. As they said on the Podcast - "trust the chef". DW & I are excited to try this place - we have scheduled a breakfast, lunch and dinner over our 10 days just so we can experience it fully. I have not seen an actual review from anyone who has eaten there (other than Kevin and John), but most people are saying it isn't good because the menu doesn't have chicken fingers and french fries on it.

I recommend you listen to the podcast. They said that it really isn't comparable to any other Disney restaurant, and I think that is a good thing. We (as a Disney community) often complain that everything is the same at every place we go, so I am happy to see something new offered. It makes me laugh that those people who complain that there is no variety immediately dismiss this place for being diffferent. Tough crowd to please, I guess.

bumpity bump

I'm interested in reviews from Dis'ers, too. Menu selections look good to me, but we really love finding healthy menu choices when we eat out.

I excerpted this from my minitrip report on the CR FAQ thread and decided to cross post here due to what I know is high interest on this topic.

On to a topic of fresher interest: The Wave.
We ate at The Wave for breakfast. Organic coffee for me. DH tried it and liked it enough to add an order for himself. It is “real” coffee and brought in the stay warm carafes. I put it up there with the coffee at Kona. Different “notes” – a bit fruitier but really nice. Children had standard milk, choc milk. OJ was good – a bit pulpy for me but I know many people like that fresh-squeezed texture.

DH had the ham and cheese omelet (good) which came with skillet potatoes (ok) and bacon (standard WDW) and biscuit (fantastic). We live in the South and are a bit picky about biscuits – these were good! I had the multigrain pancakes (3 large) which had good flavor but a bit “heavy” – 2 cakes were plenty to feel full. The very small dish of fruit compote was a nice counterpoint. I opted for the $4 upgrade to the chicken sausage over bacon / sausage. 4 small-med sausages with a bit of a sage flavor - a big hit with my kids who stole them from me. DS3 had child egg, bacon, potato, biscuit child’s meal ($5.09) with an extra egg – both over hard and done properly. Again the biscuit (with honey) was a huge hit with him! DS5 had the silver dollar pancakes (not multigrain – just standard cakes) with bacon and ate about half of the 4? cakes.

Service was fine but not special. The space is cavernous and nearly empty when we ate – Sunday 920a. Not really “discovered” yet. Overall, I would eat here again. This is NOT the same experience as eating Tonga Toast / macadamia nut pancakes at Kona. It is much more relaxed / relaxing and more healthy. When we left, I did not feel like I had eaten my daily intake of fat / sugar in one meal like I do at Kona (as much as I really like their food). I would eat here for breakfast if staying at CR for sure. I would seriously consider an ADR here if I had multiple breakfasts to schedule and I was on a monorail / direct boat ride away. I’m not sure how much of a “destination” dining experience The Wave will become – at least for breakfast.

The Wave is definitely worth a try!

Has the Wave been added to the dining plan? I need to call in a couple of days for our ADRs for our Christmas trip and wouldn't mind trying this restaurant. If it's on the plan, I'll need to do a little rearranging to fit it in!

Yes it's on the Dining Plan and it's a 1 Table Service Credit.

Just went for breakfast. I couldn't care less if anything is organic or isn't organic. I just want the taste. The multigrain pancakes were good.

The only complaint I have is that I happen to like chicken sausage, but there was a $4 upcharge if you wanted chicken sausage with your pancakes. NO way. I got regular old pork. I did think chicken was supposed to be cheaper. And why would they want to make the healthier stuff that much more expensive if they're trying to encourage you to eat it?

I had dinner here this past Friday. Here are my thoughts on the evening. After arriving a little early (OK, make that a lot early. My ADR was actually for SATURDAY night:rolleyes1 ) The Front Desk CM's were very pleasant and greeted me warmly; invited me to relax in the Lounge area while my table was readied. My server recommended the Agave Nectar Margarita - Partida blanco tequila, organic agave nectar and freshly squeezed lime juice. - $10.25 so that is what I ordered. No sooner had she stepped away than my buzzer went off that my table was ready! Wow, that was quick.

I was scanning the dinner menu when my margarita arrived, along with my bar tab. (I only mention that because she checked on that several times during my dinner.) I thought I could pay for everything at the end of the meal, so that is what I did. Loved the staff! Loved the decor! Hated the margarita... Sorry folks. It tasted very salty and had an "off" flavor. I'm thinking too much lime juice? It was very overpowering, but potent in the alcohol content!::yes::

I decided on the Grilled Marinated Flank Steak - Made with seasonal vegetables, Chimichurri, and guacamole. - $20.99 since the guacamole and chimichurri sounded interesting. As for the "seasonal vegetables" they were no more than thinly shredded carrots in a pile under the sliced steak. While the flavors were interesting, it was not a memorable dish. My server kept asking if I wanted to add a starch, but I declined since I was "saving myself" for dessert. Here I also want to add that the bread which was served was whole grain, but very soft with a dusting of flour on the top. The bread was served cold, but really should have been served warm. The butter pats had an interesting sprinkle of golden salt on the top. This had a very nice flavor.

I ordered the Organic Colombian coffee $2.19,to go with my dessert: Creamy Indulgence - Cheesecake with raspberry coulis, Coconut panna cotta with passion fruit drizzle, or Chocolate-passion fruit mousse with pecan-olive brittle. - $7.99 I will admit to being a coffee snob, I drink mine black and I adore a really good cup of coffee. This was not it. I will not drink the Nescafe that is served in most Disney locations either. I really like freshly ground coffee. Sorry folks...it wasn't my cup of tea!:confused3 But hold on for the good news... THE DESSERT ROCKS! Well worth the visit for the dessert alone.

My overall opinion is that this restaurant will eventually be a winner. It is just in the baby steps of opening, so I have to give them leeway for improvement.
SERVICE? A- (My table server was wonderful, my bar server was wonderful, except for the multiple trips to my table during my meal to see if I was ready to settle my tab.)

DECOR? A+ I thought it was decorated and themed beautifully.

FOOD? C-

Non-alcoholic BEVS? (RE: Coffee) D

ALCOHOLIC BEVS? C- The drink was not good, it was full to the rim with ice, and it was a smallish drink for the price.

DESSERT? A A real stand-out!

Overall I would have to say I spent about what I would have at the California Grill, but I did not get a dinner on the same par. I was glad I tried THE WAVE, but wished I had gone for breakfast or lunch instead.

I will post this and come back and insert pictures shortly. Hope this helps some with their planning.:hippie:

Thank you for posting that honest review.

I was going to order the same dish you had if we kept our ADR's for July. I appreciate your review, and do hope you are correct that it will be a good dining establishment once it settles in. Looking forward to seeing your photos!

Here is the entrance to THE WAVE... very futuristic, don't you think?

Not for the weak at heart! :sad2: The fresh lime juice made the drink taste way too salty. Probably a little future tweaking of proportions is all this drink needs.

There were quite a few people dining on Friday night. I enjoyed the bustling atmosphere of the room.

The bread was a little softer than I expected for "whole grain". It would have been sooo much better if it had been served warm. The butter dusted with golden sea salt was tasty!

This was good, just not great... I really hope to be "wowed" by Disney when I sit down for a meal (and I expect to be in the future). Another curiosity was that there were only 8 entrees to choose from. This could be due to a new restaurant trying on different tastes to find their niche, although a few more choices would have been welcome.
