Anyone tried soft paws?

We have and found our older cats wanted no part of it, chewed them right off....the kitten did well and still uses them....

they do fall off every few months....and look really funny....the colors are so bright

I put them on my 2 new kitties -- they could *still* hook into the furniture and scratch and pick! :confused3

I tried them on our kitten. Some fell off right away (within minutes) and some fell off after a few days or a week.

A really good friend of mine tried them and hated them so much that I never bothered to try them myself. She said they fell off quickly and the ones that didn't fall off her cat picked off.

SO maybe I should just clip?
My cat that I clip doesn't seem to be able to dig in very well at all. I also scold her at any time I hear her try to claw something other than her post.

You can try to deter them from couches by getting scratching posts that have catnip in them (attracts them). Li

Are your cats kittens or adults?
We tried them recently on our 4 month old kitty. He tolerated us putting them on very well and he hasn't tried picking them off. A few did fall off, though I think it was our application/not using enough glue.
We will keep using them, I think there is a learning curve in regards to applying them properly.
If your cats are pretty young (or older and kinda docile) I would try them.

My kitties are middle aged 6,and 9..I have an old cat too , but he's too lazy to scratch

Jenny, I was going to say that. Splash is 19 & at some point has stopped scratching the couch, but still uses her sisal mat. :thumbsup2

Lucy was almost 14 when she died, but she was still vigously using her 2x4 scratching post. We still have it in the attic. She whittled the top of that thing into a point. She LOVED it. :rotfl2:

I used them on a cat I had about 12 years ago. We'd tried every scratching post on the market and it was our last hope. Soft Paws worked really well for us.

Shadow did vocally complain during application but endured it. I watched the vet apply them the 1st time and did it myself afterwards. The Soft Paws usually stayed on for weeks at a time before shedding. We even had to cut one off because her claw was starting to grow too long...maybe the glue was stronger back then? :confused3

In any event, Shadow was a solid black kitty and looked really hot with her red and shocking pink nails!

We have never treid them, but do clip our cats claws and have ever since he was a kitten. He is used to it so it isn't a big deal. I think they would work better on a young cat, old ones are set in their ways.

Now that Splash is 19 & not scratching as much, I've had to start clipping her nails too. She's not chewing them off anymore either.

Ha, I actually just reapplied 3 soft paws tonight! My Bella is sporting blue and has managed to keep a good portion on the last 2 weeks. Our vet put them on and used a different glue, skin glue. She said it's much stronger but said I had to wear gloves when applying since if I got the glue on me it'd take several days to come off.

Oh yeah, and it's working real well. My carpets are so much happier

I tried them on one of my cats (then a kitten) years and years ago. I didn't like them and find it's just as easy to clip their nails- I mean they're going to squirm and fight it no matter what you do. YMMV

All I can think of while looking at the pictures is:
My cats get a manicure and I don't!:rotfl2: :rotfl:
For some reason I don't know if our 'girls' would wear them either. However I did give them their first nail clipping the other day and they were very good.;)

Cats with manicures......who'd a thunk it?

I started clipping my cats' nails when they were kittens. To this day they love getting thier 'manicures'! As soon as they're done, they run right to the cabinet where the cookies are to get their treats.

When we had our cat we tried the soft paws. The first time I put them on her it was a mess. She would yank her paw away just as I was about to put the tip on and I ended up with glue on her fur and the pads of her feet, not to mention I glued my fingers together. :rolleyes1 They did not work even after I did manage to get them on her because she would chew them off and then take revenge on my couch!:headache:

Have you tried the feliway plugin? My friend Karen tried it and she said it works like a charm.. details here on her blog. She posts about how surprised she was that it worked. No more torn furniture
