When DW and I toured OKW in November '97, the DVC Guide offered to give us a credit of the accomodation charges at a WDW Resort hotel towards our DVC purchase. As we had stayed off-site this wasn't even an option for us. Does anyone else remember this offer? Did anyone take advantage of it? Is it still offered to WDW guests touring DVC or has such an offer been effectively replaced by MB?

We purchased in Feb of 98 and they offered it to us a little differently. We were given the dollar amount off our price, but were charged in turn teh number of points it would have been if we had stayed at our resort, which we happened to be doing anyway.

i believe it was around $2000+ for our 1 week credit we rec'd. I would have to look further into it to be sure.

....just checked, it was 70pts the promotion was called Magical Beginnings........ they ran that for a while, though I think the format changed over time. That point manager comes in handy!!

We purchased in late 1999 and that was not an option then. We did take advantage of the Magical Beginnings offer then in effect as we did not plan to be back for a year.

I think MB replaced the offer to give credit for a WDW resort stay.

Early on, they did offer a cash credit (but took some points) for Disney resort stays. I'm not sure when this changed but think it was before 2000. Later versions of this program simply gave you a credit per point that you returned to them, effectively the same thing. This was called Magical Beginnings. With BCV and SSR, they've also offered other options that include a rebate but you keep the points OR you could take non DVC stays at WDW resort hotels.

That was the incentive we got!

We bought in Sept. of 97' while we were at WDW on our honeymoon. We were there on a 2wk trip - staying at GF,Dixie Landings and the last 3nights at VB. They let us put the entire amount we had spent for our accommodations for that trip as our downpayment. We did not have to give back any points - the offer was simply to be able to use the $$ we had already spent on the trip we were currently on at WDW as our downpayment for our points purchase.

This was the incentives they were now giving in place of having given the free park passes until the year 2000 that had just ended.

The offer we got while sailing on the Magic this last December was different. We were offered either a discount of $5 per point or 300 free points to be used before the end of April 2004. I don't recall the mention of Magical Beginings.

Because our schedules are very flexable we took the 300 points :hyper: and treated ourselves and some in-laws to a WDW trip, a 2bdr and 1bdr for 4 nights at OKW. When we called Member Services it took them a while to figure out how to book it with these "special points" it seems almost everyone was taking the discount and they'd never had to to it before. :D

We had the same offer in 98 when we toured with David Summerau. We could have used the cost of all our resort stays from that trip towards our purchase. Thinking about it now the price to purchase was only 7 grand and we had spent close to 3 grand onour hotel stays for the almost 3 weeks we were there on our honeymoon.

Now I may be wrong, it was a long time ago but I think the first time we were introduced to DVC was in 1994 at that time the deal was we'd get credit towards our downpayment by the cost of our 7 night stay at the Poly plus the free park passes would be in effect till the year 2000.

We passed it up as we were unsure it was a good deal or not.

I finally bought in 2000 after there were no more free park passes.

Somebody come bop me on the head now.

I do not regret not buying just not bying sooner or more the first time.::yes::

We did exactly this when we bought in Nov 97. We were staying at the Polynesian and were able to apply some of our stay there towards our downpayment. Not offered anymore. Now they have Magical Beginnings.

I think this was offered at the very beginning...it was mentioned to us when we first walked up to DVC kiosk in 1994. When we joined in 2000 we were able to sell back half of our first years points for $10 each...nothing relating to our resort stay that vacation.

Hi all,

When we bought in November of 1997 (I think!) we got the same deal... I can't remember if they took points or not but I do remember them doing something with regard to what we had already spent for that trip... (We bought on the last day of our visit) Oh what fools we were to think we could live with *only* 150 points! HA!

:D

we bought our orig pts in aug 98 at HHI and we didn't sign the papers before we checked out so they couldn't credit our room charges because we had already closed out, but when we bought more on cruise in 2000 we were credited with the points for the year and given the option to sell them back or use them later. we sold them back at $15 a pt. i think this was called magical beginnings at that time.
