Was wondering if anyone has taken a newbie on Pirates?
My last son was 2 months when I took him on it for his first trip and he slept right though it.
My next son will only be a few weeks old.
Do you think it will be okay?
I plan on taking him on the ride, hopefully asleep in one of those shoulder wrap carriers.
Thanks!

I have taken a barely three week old on POC. It is a great nursing ride. Just make sure you hold baby a little tighter on the 2 small drops. My babies have honestly never even flinched on this part, though.

The drops would be the areas of concern and quite honestly I really don't have an answer if it would be okay for the baby or not.

The first concern I had when I read your post was for YOU....not specific to POTC per se, but for a DL outing in general. Two to three weeks postpartum seems awfully early for the amount of walking a typical DL day involves. I always found that too much physical activity in those early weeks inevitably caused me to bleed more. Please rest lots and don't overdo! :flower3:

And congrats on the upcoming addition to your family!

I brought my baby when she was only 5 weeks old and the cm's were telling me it's okay if I brought her on Dumbo...I didn't, but that's crazy! She did ride Peter Pan and Small World.

Congrats on the new baby!

I completely agree. Plus, I wouldn't even have been able to step down into the boat...

Not to mention, if the baby were to react negatively, or have a sudden and extreme need for a diaper change, or etc etc...that's a LONG time to be stuck with no way out (for you/baby OR the other passengers!).

You guys are so right! I didn't even think about the walking part for me. LOL
We have season passes, so since we go all the time I didnt even think twice about it. :) Were staying close by and since we will be traveling with family to help us with the dd5 ds2 and new ds I dont think it will be a problem. We can always take lots of rest breaks and ofcourse the afternoon naptime for the toddler. :)
thanks for your concerns! :lovestruc

Well as long as baby can handle it, then I think I can too.
Thanks again!!!

Absolutely okay to take infants on the POC ride. I would be way more concerned about taking an infant to a park where people from all over the world gather and bring their various varieties of diseases and the baby being too young to take fever medications. I had an annual passport and we would go to the park at least once a week when my kids were little. I would count 5 days later and at least one of them would be getting sick. It was mostly the one who would hang on the poles while waiting in line. Practice good handwashing and keep the baby covered and you should be okay.

Uh, I'd worry about the fact that you have a 2 and 5 year old and they are going to be all over Disneyland, touching stuff, and picking up germs which they will then bring home.

Having a 2 week old baby should mean staying away from highly germ infested areas for at least a little while, until that immune system has a chance to develop a bit.

I live VERY close to DL. I've been here since my six year old was born. The EARLIEST I took either of my two kids into the park was 4 months. Prior to that, there was no way.

When my kids were younger, they'd get sick nearly EVERY time we'd go to Disneyland. They still sort of do. We're all sick right now and my son and I were at DCA on Monday. By Wednesday, he was sick with a virus, which we now all have.

I'd stay home with the baby and send the rest of the family to Disneyland, with STRICT hand washing instructions for the day.

You know, every family and every person is different, both philiosphically and biologically. Some families have stronger immune systems than others.

Some cultures believe you should shelter a baby after birth for months. Some think you should get them out and about to strengthen them.

You should do what you personally think is best.

That being said, we have taken both of our children into the parks since they were between 1 and 5 weeks old. We spent the time just hanging out and going on the occasional ride here and there. It was easy on me and fun for us all. I did wear each child in a sling during those early weeks, and some folks didn't even know I had a baby in there. :lovestruc

You know yourself best. If you think you can handle it then I say go for it! I'm sure babe won't mind, especially if you have baby in a carrier, no one can touch him/her and at that age they'll probably sleep most of the time.

At 2-3 weeks my son and I were out and about all over on a daily basis. Some people thought we were nuts, but I couldn't stand being at home all the time. If I lived closer to DL I would have taken him at 2-3 weeks old.

We often catch something while visiting the parks, too. And that's despite the fact that I make my kids wash their hands probably 7-10 times during a typical day in the parks, AND we use Purell a lot, too. Plus, they are old enough that they are not putting their hands in their mouths, etc.

ALL of my kids came down with chicken pox within a week or so of a Disneyland trip (one in '97, and the other 3 in 2008). We just came back last month and oldest DS started with a sore throat and fever on the drive home...we all ended up with an icky virus that dragged on for like 10 days.

If the trip is something you feel strongly about, I would DEFINITELY use a sling carrier so that people aren't breathing/coughing/sneezing on your baby's face, and also take along plenty of Purell for your other kids' hands after each ride, and try to keep them from touching their mouths or noses with their hands. I think it's a gamble...both for you and for the baby. But people do it everyday.

Best wishes, and hope you all stay super healthy! :)

BTW - I agree the best nursing rides are Pirates and, add to that, Small World!

Take advantage of the disability experience room at the Finding Nemo Submarines, too! (It's a 8x12 room with 2 benches and a movie screen.) Small babies are good in there and you can nurse during it. There's never a wait. Also good with younger restless kids, like mine. Go up to the cast member at the entrance under the monorail to request it. You can also leave it at any time during the show.

A full circle trip on the train is another good one, if you can get a seat at the end of the bench.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions!

I guess our family has been lucky because even after all the million trips to the best place on earth, we have never returned sick. :)
I will definately have my newborn in a sling and away from the breathing/coughing/sneezing. :)

Like I mentioned before, my last son was only 2 months when we visited for his first trip :) We all had a great time!
I have seen tons of moms bring in their own little ones, so I was just curious as to how early in age they were. :)
I was concerned about the drops, but if he is asleep, I dont think it will be too bad for him.
Plus I will have other family members to help out and take turns.

Yellow Mickey Ponchos, I had no idea Nemo had that room, awesome! I usually use the baby feeding room off of mainstreet. :)
My last son slept through all the rides so he wasn't awake to eat.

Thanks again everyone!

I believe that all of the previous advice is very good. I don't really know anything about birthin babies..... but....... I too would be careful about the germ factor really factory that exists at any public place. I like to think y'all will be just fine. But then again, I am not Doctor Spock. Not to be confused with Mr. Spock. The former is a famous babe doctor and the later is a famous half Vulcan and half Human. :)
IF the babe is truly a pirate to be.... then he will just love the pirates.

Have a fantabulous time!
