Anyone stockpiling food?

Add a little Crown Royal and you have a nice hot toddy. The bartender at the ESPN made me one when I had a horrendous cold a few years ago. That and the gluhwein in Germany did more for my sore throat and cough than any cough medicine.

Hahaha I’m sure the school I work at would be a little concerned about me being around the little ones with that.
Add a bit of bourbon...even better! The taste is superior to NyQuil and works just as good IMO😉

So I went to Walmart and Target today. I’m in Las Vegas.

When walking into Walmart I was immediately greeted by a huge display of water palettes. They seemed to be throughout the store and there was plenty. In Target they *had* a display but it was pretty well hit as well as the normal water section. Both places just about every person had ridiculous amounts of water in their carts. :confused3

In the Pharmacy section Walmart was hit hard in the pain reliever/fever section but if you dug around you could find some. I picked up a bottle of generic Tylenol. I went looking for their adult liquid Tylenol for my oldest but no luck. It’s usually hit or miss on a regular day though. The cold/flu isle was ransacked but there were plenty of meds to be had as well as displays of them. Oddly there was a display of Apple Cider Vinegar, lemon juice and honey. The honey was ransacked? At Target both were well stocked. Things like vitamins, first aid etc. seemed well stocked at both places. Kids meds were plentiful.

Further down rubbing alcohol seemed hard hit but you could readily buy some. At Walmart every kind of wipe was well, wiped out including baby and face wipes. No hand sanitizer or hand wipes to be found. Pretty much the same at Target except there were face wipes aplenty. At Target feminine pads shelves were empty. (lucky for DD it’s something I always stock up on) Hand soap hit hard at both places but you could get it. Shampoo and body wash was plentiful. Apparently people don’t think they’ll need showers if they’re locked away in their homes.:rotfl2:

Paper towels seemed plentiful while brand name toilet paper seemed to take a hit. Plenty of generic though. Clorox wipes were just about gone but there was generic. I didn’t think to look at canned food but the grocery sections in both places seemed rather quiet and didn’t look out of the ordinary.

Both places had people re stocking in every section. They looked exhausted. I had forgotten to look for a church key (which is why I went) at Walmart so swung back through the pharmacy section and low and behold there were four bottles of liquid Tylenol. I grabbed two.

I wanted to add I mentioned the feminine hygiene pads part to a friend and they said it was on some news or something that people are freaking and using THOSE as masks! No joke!

Oh my. Well must be an extreme prepper at my Target. There were plenty at Walmart.

I *do* have a couple packs of Wet Ones. Go me for seeing into the future. 😂

Great, so I suppose the aloe vera gel will be wiped out now too! LOL. I use it for my dyshydrotic eczema. I currently have a 20 oz. bottle that's half empty (or half full, for you optimistic types), and just for a lark I looked it up on Bed Bath & Beyond's (where I buy it) website and of course, it's out of stock. With THIRTY NINE people waiting for it! I have a special pure glycerin hand soap that I use also, and that is out of stock too. 22 people waiting. Oy, hopefully all this nonsense dies down before I need to replenish. :p

Honestly, human behavior is scarier to me than any virus.

The news said last night that a 4th school has been closed along with the lawyer's law firm. The 7 people who worked with him have been warned of being exposed to Coronavirus and have to watch for symptoms. Each of those 7 people have had contact with many people. So the chain continues. . .

Ugh! 9 new cases in NYC have been confirmed "overnight." All related to that one lawyer, who had unfortunately exposed his wife, 2 kids, a family friend who drove him to the hospital and another family's members to the Coronavirus and they are ALL confirmed to having it now. It brings the total cases, thus far, in NYC, to 11 people.

Also, 1,000 people are now self-quarantined here due, possibly to exposure to the lawyer. (Not sure how they figured that out. :confused3 But, 1,000 people out of 8 million is not a lot.) Maybe it was all those people who were at the funeral and the bar mitzvah he went to? It's a shame, the Orthodox Jewish are such a community oriented culture. What is normally such a positive aspect has become a negative, in this situation. :(

(Yet, they still have not found the person who, accidentally gave it to this lawyer via "community spread." So there is actually an unknown, 12th person who has it, does not know, and is potentially exposing others. :duck: However, in 80% of the population in China who got it, the virus resolved itself, maybe this person finally stayed home thinking they have the regular flu. And are now over it?)

Many of us have been keeping this thread rather light with some levity. (Especially me.) How about a moment of silence for the 10 people who died in Seattle? (I so, feel for the family members waiting outside that nursing home for some word about their family members.) And the one who died in CA today.

To keep some perspective on all of this, say some prayers/thoughts for those that died from the tornado in Nashville, TN, yesterday. They didn't get a 2 week warning/notice. They barely got seconds after the sirens went off. Then in about 20 seconds time, 20+ people were gone. If anyone here does have to be in self-quarantine, LIVE IT UP at home! Life isn't promised to any of us.

. . . That reminds me, I still have to pick up some chocolate.

Back to a lighter post.

The release date of the new James Bond movie, ironically titled, "No Time To Die," has been moved from this April, (as the overseas box-office profits, especially in China, are huge,) to next November - just in time for the NEXT virus. :rolleyes1 :duck:

Maybe they didn't understand there was supposed to be a comma in between the words:
feminine hygiene pads, face masks.

Instead they read/heard:
feminine hygiene pads face masks.

I have been checking the updates in Seattle a couple times a day because my daughter moved there for work just about the time this started happening. She works not far from that nursing home. Honestly, I veer from panic to not worried on a regular basis. Talking to her tonight we talked about the huge number of people in Seattle vs the actual number of cases and it made me feel a little better. Anyway, in one of the updates I read it said that nursing home has been investigated before because of the high volume of flu deaths they had. They are now being investigated again.

Got some individual size Purell with carrier at Staples today. Wasn't planning on it, but my car battery died and while waiting for my husband to show up to jump it I decided to walk around the store. They had a clearance bin with all the Purell products under $.50. I have a big bottle at home so left those, but figured the three pack of 1oz with carriers was too good a deal to pass up. Perfect for our household of three.

I live in eastern wa., but was supposed to go to Emerald City Comic Con in Seattle next week (March 12-15). Usually brings about 100,000 people from all over to the Wa. state convention center. Kept going back and forth about whether to go or not. Tickets are non refundable, as are the accommodations I made. And Reed Pop still hasn't cancelled, despite a growing number of public pleas from con goers (and others) to do so. They kept putting notes on their website saying they were going to disinfect everything reaaally well. Now that several artists and literary guests have cancelled, they found it in their hearts to offer refunds to con goers who don't feel like they can go under these "special circumstances". Who would we be going to see? Wonder how many more will cancel in the coming days? I already filed for a refund. Thanks Reed Pop!

There were reports on the news last night that a scanner at LAX has tested positive. Which means how many thousands of people may have been exposed at the airport. Scary for us, since we are supposed to fly into LAX in...oh, 2 weeks.

DH is heavily leaning to not going, just to be safe, and is thinking of working from home as much as possible. (which won't do any good with DS still going to school or us going to the store, but hey, whatever he needs to do for his peace of mind, I'll support). For now, we've just taken to washing our hands when we come in the front door.

The aloe is basically so the alcohol doesn't dry out the hands. And to thicken up the alcohol so the wipes aren't sopping wet. Make sure you get a rubbing/Isopropol alcohol with a high alcohol content. Walgreens has one with 91% alcohol. Inside Edition, said vodka could be used in a pinch. But make sure the vodka is 150% proof - which is actually 75% alcohol. Bacardi rum, sells a 151-proof bottle that is 75.5 percent alcohol. :drinking1 <-- Oh wait, you're supposed to use it on your hands.

I actually have extra packages of makeup wipes. I wonder if I can just pour in a lot of alcohol into the wipes packages? :scratchin

That's a thought. Could you just dump alcohol into a package of baby wipes???....not for butts, but for cleaning. Or even take the old wipes container, add 1/2 roll paper towels dump in 1/2 cup water, few drops soap and 1/2 bottle of alcohol?

We use the clorox hand sanitizer ( 71 % alcohol) around the house a little but mostly at disney. I bought a qt bottle about 7 weeks ago, for $10.34 from amazon. (still had half a bottle, just my normal buying hablit) About two weeks ago , it was $35. Yesterday it no longer available. Hmmm maybe I can sell the extra bottle for a grand or two.

To clarify, a person, not equipment, tested positive.

Calm down and eat...canned tomatoes! I heard they are a miracle cure. Let me know, I can hook you up...

Back in the early 1900's, during construction projects like the Panama Canal and Los Angeles aqueduct, canned tomatoes were more valuable than gold. (Almost.) It could be days before a doctor could treat a sick or injured worker. The tomatoes were thought to be the cure-all for practically everything including hangovers. The demand became so strong that the price shot up to well over a dollar per can on the black market, when normally they would cost about 15 cents.

The tomatoes were for the gold pay workers. Both my maternal and paternal grandfathers did stints as silver pay workers.

It sounds like they are planning to have sporting events in Italy played in empty stadiums for a month. As a big MLB fan, they are definitely starting to consider coronavirus in day-to-day interactions (pre-signing balls and tossing them to fans rather than face to face interaction, less touching of each other [ha]). I think it would still be awhile before we get to that level here but hard to imagine it's not impossible. Living in the country's largest city and working in a tourist mecca, all of these things being canceled so that people don't come in contact with many others is something that can be done, but our days to day lives involves us coming in contact with that many people!

YES!!!

And Celine had better not expect us to do any Kumbaya hand-holding during her Titanic song.

I can see everyone in the audience going, "Nope! Hell NO! Not doing that!" :scared:
Maybe they will hand out protective gloves at the beginning of the show and have hand sanitizer available as you leave . . .or just send you through an alcohol mist to disinfect.

Where did you find that emoji?? 😂

We saw Celine in January and there’s no hand holding during Tinanic, or any part of the show, lol. Honestly wish we could see her again. Have a wonderful time!

My DD said, “Mama, I have to live my life. There’s really no way around it.” So I just remind her to wash her hands. What can you do?

She said they are at less than 10% capacity and getting more and more cancellations everyday. Marriott is not charging cancellation fees. She is bored out of her mind. Ten hours a day with no customers.

Here in Vegas they’ve canceled several conventions and occupancy is taking a nose dive. It will be interesting to see what happens when the Golden Knights have another home stand. T-Mobile usually always fills to capacity.

I am a Jonas Brothers fan and noticed their Vegas residency is selling pretty poorly. Not sure if that's a reflection on demand at the location (their tour shows sold out) or the timing (they will be there the first two weeks of April) or both.
