Anyone still buying the DDE card?

We bought ours for the first time last month and it paid for itself by the 2nd day. Love it!

Can you use the DDE for any counter service meals?
Thanks!

Most of the AK accepts it (I think Yak and Yeti is the exception) and some resorts accept it. Saratoga Springs accepts it at Artist's Palate for sure. The other resorts that do not have a TS accept it as well. (Pop, All Stars, etc)

Can anyone answer this question.....

I have an AP that I activated in February...

If I purchase a DDE card when we go in August will it expire in February or August?

Thanks.

Love our card- it paid for itself at Victoria and Alberts! My last renewal will cover 3 week-long trips and the auto gratuity is no problem- I usually have some wine at dinner and math becomes a bit of a challenge!:lmao:
I definitely make ADRs at restaurants that accept it and those that don't give AP or DVC discounts! The only one that we aren't getting a discount at is dinner at Tokyo Dining (lunch discounts only) unless someone knows of a discount there I've missed?

Good question, Mint! We got ours in March and it expires in March so seems to be an independent expiration. Have fun, hope to see you!:thumbsup2

Is DDE the same as Disney Dining Plan? I'm sorry, the $20 discount above confused me. Is DDE better than DDP?:confused3

No the DDE (Disney Dining Experience) card is separate from the DDP. The DDE card is available to annual pass holders for $60 and provides the AP holder with a 20% discount at most of the table service restaurants.

Now, it will depend upon your dining style/tastes as to whether the DDP or the DDE is better for you. For me, the DDE is actually a better choice. In order to figure out which is better, look at the menus for the table service places that you want to eat at and figure out which selections you will make. Then you can add up the costs with the DDE card versus the DDP and determine which option is better for you.

We have one and I plan to renew it. I know that tipping is a matter of personal preference, but I don't think that the 18% is such a big deal. I feel like we tipped that much anyway. I guess I can understand people wanting to be in control of deciding how much to leave, but I'd bet that the reality is that 90% of the time most people were going to leave the full tip anyway. So I still think that DDE is a great deal and that in actuality the automatic tip doesn't really cost people much more than they were going leave.

Thank you so much for your reply. I'm joining the Vacation Club, will I have the option to purchase the card as a VCM?

You must be a Florida resident or an AP holder to purchase the DDE. However as a DVC member you get a discount on the AP. Then you can buy the card!

Sorry I'm a little confused:confused3 about the DDE card.
Can it be used at counter service locations? and if so how much is it off your bill. Also is there a place that list where it can be used? My family will be there for a total of 25 days this yr and we will be eating at just CS locations so is it worth purchasing. We are not doing any TS at all and will have AP for the yr.
TIA

This site has a list of places that accept the DDE card: http://allears.net/din/dde.htm

If you only plan on eating at CS locations, I wouldn't recommend getting the card. The card gets you a 20% discount, but it is mostly accepted at TS restaurants.

I think it is only good at the value resort CS locations! otherwise TS only!

I have a few questions, I hope someone can help:

I am planning on getting the AP for each member in our family. I believe that the AP expires 1 year from first entry into a park, and not a year from date of purchase. If I am wrong please tell me. Also if I buy it now but don't use it till Nov. can I already access the Passholder website or do I have to wait till after I use it at a park?

Is it the same with the DDE? Does it expire 1 year from first use or 1 year from date of purchase?

I would like to use it on the day I arrive at a resort, but if it is only valid 1 year from purchase date I would have to take a seperate trip to a park or DTD to buy one (which isn't in my plan), before being able to use it at the resort...right? Or can I buy one at the resorts?

Is it true I only need to purchase 1 DDE for the whole family? Or do I spend $60 per person?

Where can I find a list of participating restaurants? Do they give you a printed list when you get the card?

Last question does the discount apply to extras, like ordering a birthday cake in advance?

TIA for all your help

OK, this is going to get complicated. :confused3 But here goes. It all depends upon how you get your AP. If you buy it at the park, DTD etc, then you actually get the pass and it expires 1 year from when you bought it. If you buy it ahead of time and get a voucher, then it expires 1 year from when you activate it at the park. You need to activate it, i.e. trade the voucher for an AP, before you can enter a park. I bought mine on-line through the DVC members website and I was sent a voucher. I don't know if all of the ways to order in advance give you vouchers.

The DDE card is 12-13 months from purchase not first use! I plan on buying mine at DTD when I activate my AP.

Yes you need to go either to a park or to DTD. You can not get one at your resort.

Yes, with the DDE card, I believe that you can cover 10 people with each meal.

Check out this website AllEarsNet DDE

Sorry, but I don't know this answer.

I'll answer one you didn't ask:
Can you use your AP voucher to buy the DDE card?
Answer: No. Your AP must be active to purchase the DDE card.
