I was looking up hotels for our visit and found the Portofino Inn, which says to be right across from Downtown Disney. Has anyone stayed here? How long of a walk is it to the park? Did it smell? Would you stay there again? Any info from people who've stayed there is much appreciated!

I stayed there years ago, when it was pretty new. It definitely is NOT across the street from DTD. It's on Harbor, South of Katella. Look at this map for reference:

I don't think it's within walking distance. It would take 15 minutes or more. We used the ART. I now prefer to stay closer.

Funny you ask about smell, it was one of our major complaints, and that was when it was new. The kids' suite was a nice layout though.

I have stayed there before and I remember liking it. It did not smell weird at all when we stayed. It was clean, and bright. I also think it is NOT across the street - about a 15 minute walk. But you passa 7-11 and another little convenience store, which os kind of nice. There is even a Subway across the street.

I thought it was nice and a lot less smelly that Desert Palms Inn & Suites which is on the corner just before Portofino. I also remember walking pass Candy Cane Inn admiring the nice grounds, wishing we could have stayed there - but we had too many people.

I got off track there somewhere... lol

Not a real short walk but it is walking distance. I have mixed feelings about this one. It was a fairly clean hotel. But when we checked in, I got a room that was not cleaned, so that left a bitter taste. Another annoyance was the fact that we were sold on the hotel because of a "free" breakfast at the Jolly Roger restaurant. Well the breakfast has very limited times which does not fit in with a family that is travelling to Disneyland that morning. To take advantage of the breakfast, one would arrive in DL quite a bit after opening. I agree with the previous poster... Candy Cane Inn looks pretty nice and the cost isn't that much more.

WE stayed here one night in October, and I LOVED IT! It is very rare that you check into a hotel and the room actually looks like the publicity photos. It was beautiful!
The beds are soft, pillows are soft, very bright, very secure feel. The IHOP across the street is probably the best food I've ever eaten in my life and the service is awesome! (plus, after 4, kids eat free!)
We stayed at a kids suite, which was a very large room, very nice for everyone to have their own bed.
few cons were:
1. The kids suite, the room is seperated by a sheer curtain on the french doors, so not as much privacy as we had been hoping for...if you get my drift ;)
2. Cost and distance.
While it was VERY nice, we are a low-maintenance kinda family, and have found hotels to check out on future visits that are (a) closer (b) offer a breakfast and (c) have a pool on the grounds.
HTH!

We stayed there in June with about 6 rooms being taken up with family. Our room was fine, two rooms in the family were so hot--air not working, one room freezing and another room didn't get cleaned while we were there. It is a few blocks away but a nice walk. I would try it.

We stayed there once and it was nice, but I really prefer to be able to walk to the parks without being tired once I got there!
