We are thinking of doing the Branson trek this summer and are tossing around the idea of Big Cedar Lodge. Anyone been and stayed in the Loft rooms? How is their kids' program? Stables program? I think we may split the time between Big Cedar and something closer to Silver Dollar City so suggestions are welcome! Did you use points for Big Cedar or rent and pay cash?
Thanks for suggestions!

If you're referring to the non-timeshare area, then yup, we've stayed in the cabins with lofts many times. It's a gorgeous resort with nice amenities, full service, great people and wonderful "theme-ing". Beautiful, spread out, hillside grounds around a lake cove. Very woodsy. Good restaurants, too. A lady brings around the Lodge's signature gingerbread cookies to each cabin every evening. Firewood is supplied right outside your door.

It's a trek from Big Cedar to Silver Dollar City, but not really terrible as long as you take the back roads. We've done it many times. I know there are a number of kids programs, but we've never done any of them. Our son was already a little too old for them when we started staying there.

The only thing I'd warn about is stuffed animals. If you have a problem with them, this probably isn't the place for you. The cabins have quite a number of them.

The only place closer to Branson I can help you with is Chateau on the Lake. Very nice high-rise hotel with beautiful lake views, but we felt it was a little pricey for what you get. Food was good but not great - and a bit pricey, at that. We much prefer Big Cedar. Big Cedar can run on the high side price-wise (for Branson), but we feel it's one of the few places worth it.

Haven't stayed there myself but I've marked it as one of the places we want to go soon. It looks fantastic with a great childrens' program and a great setting. (I'm sure you've visited their website?!) I'll be anxiously watching these posts to see if those who know think it is easy to get in to. Since subscribing I've been a little discouraged to hear how difficult it is to get into some of the World Passport Collection offerings. Let us know what you find out and give us a trip report if you go! Happy Trails!! Leslie

mommym - the website doesn't do it justice. Nor do photos. You really have to see it to appreciate it. It's a gem.

We stayed there last year on points, in a honeymoon cabin with a loft and LOVED it. They have a lot to do at the resort. Fishing camp for the kids (catch and release) or you can fish in the lake. Horseback riding. Movies at the pool. There is a nice pool with slides and lazy river near their timeshare area. Much more. We were there a week and we only went into Branson for one day, plus one other time for an all-you-can-eat Lobster meal. You can rent pontoons, boats, canoes, and paddle boats as well.

We would go back in a heartbeat, but may do the rent-cash deal then. I would have to check and see which way is best or if it's worth the hassle.

Thanks for the advice guys. The loft cabin seems like the way to go! This seems like a great trip for us- since we are driving from Chicago and we can stop overnight at my parents in St. Louis, I think it will work out well for the little ones. From the website, it just sounds a lot like HHI, with a lake instead of a beach. Thanks again!
