anyone started their own travel biz, or became a Disney travel agent?

The thought has been in my mind for a while, but I have no idea where to start.

I love planning trips, so I thought I'd at least look into the idea. Mainly, I would like to focus on Disney trips, as those are my favorites.

How do I start looking into it? Any good books to read?

Thanks!

I have just started as a home based travel agent with my local agency. If you have a local agency you could call them. That is if you want home based. I have been doing it for about 4mths now and already have 3 disney trips booked (1 of those is my own personal vacation), and 1 airfare,I have 2 others wanting airfair in the next couple months and also a 7 day cruise. I can go to the agency anytime I want too. I have definitely enjoyed it so far.

I would also love some info. I'm looking into doing this in about a year or so when my daughter begins school.

Are you charging a fee for your airfare only transactions? If not, you are wasting your time. You get paid nothing for airfare. I so very rarely do air-only (I only do air if they are booking a package where I get paid), and in the special circumstance that I do, I charge $25.00 per domestic ticket, and $50.00 per international ticket.

To the OP, there are many threads regarding becoming an agent. Read them carefully. Booking for clients is very different than planning trips for your friends and family. You need to be prepared to be 100% responsible for the trip from first communication until the clients return home.
