Anyone shop at Goodwill?

I was there today and bought over 50 softcover books for $40, for my kids. They love to read and keep complaining that they have read all the books they have. They were like kids in a candystore when they came home from school and saw 3 big bags of books! All the kinds they like.

I have found some really nice namebrand jeans for dd13 last summer. Once in awhile I will find Tommy Hilfiger shirts. I seem to find the most nice, name brand stuff for ds8 and dd13 cause she is in adult sizes.

Does anyone here frequent Goodwill for anything?

One thing about the store though, man when you open the door, a tidalwave of stagnant ciggy smoke kinda flows through you

The list of what I don't buy at Goodwill (um, underwear, food, cleaning products...) is considerably shorter than what I do buy there. I consider it bargain hunting, bring "green" and entertainment all in one. Our local stores are newer and definately smell ok. (Salvation Army, on the other hand...)

Doesn't hurt that DH works there, I figure we're also supporting his paycheck

I frequent Goodwill and the Salvation Army for almost everything. I'd wager 99% of my clothes are from one of those two stores. Many still have the tags on them when I buy them and I get complimented on my clothes all the time. ALL of my living room furniture came from the Salvation Army and no one can believe it. Everyone is always like OMG I don't know how you always find such good stuff!!! It's because I am willing to spend a little extra time looking through everything rather than lots of money to buy it new. My entire living room set which contains two leather recliners, a leather couch that reclines on both ends and the coffee tables and end tables was $250!!

We love Goodwill! I get twitchy if I don't make it there at least once a week. lol We buy almost all of our clothes there now; a lot of it still has tags, and I don't get so frustrated when my rowdy boys come in with grass stains and rips. ;-) My hubby says if I must have a shopping addiction at least I picked the one store that won't break us.

Wow You must have a Goodwill in a ritzy neighborhood! Ours you would find your typical raggedy orange 70's couch They don't get alot of funiture at this one. They have alot of clothes, books, movies and knick knacky stuff.

ok we apparently are twins because I am the same way and my DH says the same thing. I ALWAYS go to Salvation Army on Wednesdays because all clothes on Wed are 50% off!!! People always wonder why it takes like 2 months to see a new outfit on me at work. It's because if I shop at thrift stores then I can afford to be constantly buying "new" clothes! And then I don't feel bad when I donate them or sell them at a yard sale because I paid next to nothing for them!

I have 4 near me and I am in them about once a week. I have gotten a lot of cute Christmas stuff, a new food dehydrator for $2.99, some Disney stuff. My best buys were at the same store on different occasions. I got two genuine Coach bags-all leather- for $6.99 each. One I would say is in gently used condition and the other a little more worn, but still worth a lot more that $7. And I found a DVD of Disney's "Song of the South"-bootleg I am sure, but I finally got to see it! I love Goodwill!

LOL not really. We're just in a middle class area. The store is in Matthews, NC. The ritzy area (AKA Ballantyne or SouthPark) is too ritzy to even have such a store!

I love "junk stores" as I like to call them Dollar stores and cheapy stores are right up my alley!

Awesome buy on the purses! I have two REAL Kate Spades that I got at thrift stores. One at Goodwill and one at Plato's Closet! They were each $3.50!

I'm expecting our 2nd child and I've gotten a ton of stuff for him at Goodwill. At our store any children's clothing under 24 months is 50 cents per piece, no matter what. I also found some Mega Bloks to put with my daughter's Christmas gifts there for super cheap. I love that place.

We took a trip to Argentina last year and had hooked up with an organization that provides clothing and school stuff for kids in the "comedores" of Buenos Aires. These are really, really poor children that go to the comedores for breakfast and dinner as the only meal they get otherwise is lunch at school. Anyway, we went to Goodwill and ONLY picked out the brand new or very gently worn blue jeans for little boys. They were having a sale and we got 10 pairs of jeans for $5.00! We bought a ton of stuff that day, as well as a bunch of shorts and tshirts for boys and girls at Target.

We used to live outside Davidson and regularly shopped at the Goodwill in Cornelius, they always had really nice kids clothes that I suspect were donated by the folks that lived in the Peninsula and other nice developments along the Lake.

I'll bet so! The Salvation Army at Lake Norman usually has some pretty nice stuff!

I have been volunteering at a Goodwill....they are great but ARC is my store to go to (Association for ******** Citizens....like Goodwill). Last night I spent $17 and came home with 3 pair of slacks (one is high faluting name brand) and 2 books. All of my pants are from there now...Gloria Vanderbilt jeans...for $3.

Every Saturday....all but one color tag is half off....we've gotten great deals. And ours has a wonderful selection of my (plus) size.
