A giant clock ticking "the cost of the war in Iraq" lit up in Times Square making its debut by flashing $134.5 billion.

The amount on the clock will grow at a rate of $177 million a day, $7.4 million an hour and $122,820 per minute, according to the advocacy group Project Billboard, which put it up.

It's not easy to confirm the numbers put up by Project Billboard - a group supported by the Center for American Progress, because many of the billions of dollars appropriated by the U.S. government aren't yet spent, nor is the rate of the spending something that's monitored on an hour-by-hour basis.

The giant clock was unveiled just days before Republicans gather in New York for their national convention.

As intended, the clock caught the eye of many passers by in the busy area.

*LOL*

Oh, I thought you ment the one with the bunnies "humping"!

eeekkkk!!!! :p

That one I saw!! It's by swatch.

LOL, just another day in NYC. to quote Billy Joel, "we see it all the time on 42nd Street..."

thus far, we've had naked AIDS activists, protestors in 18th century garb shouting "One if by air, two if by SUV" and huge banners hanging from the Plaza Hotel, and the convention doesn't even start until Monday!
