Anyone Seen A Christmas Carol?

I agree with other posters. I can't imagine taking 3rd graders to this movie for a school trip! If you like the story, it is a great movie and worth seeing - and I'm not even a huge fan of Jim Carrey! I think some kids will be fine seeing it, but many others won't! It is WAY too intense for a school trip. I can't imagine there won't be other parents up in arms about this. I'm thinking they are going to have to rethink this plan.

I don't think your school wants to deal with the aftermath of this one...

If you must, I'd go so far as to discreetly let the administration know about it.

And I hardly consider myself a prude.

There is absolutely no reason to go to the administration about this. The proper chain of commands should be followed. If a parent does not want her child to see a film, express that concern to the teacher. The child does not have to attend the trip nor see the film. An alternate option might even be offered. Going to the administration is not necessary in this case as it stands now. Unfortunately, many parents now a days are so quick to run to the admin. Teachers and parents need to work as a team, not against one another. If the parent doesn't go to the teacher with a concern, this cannot happen.

We went yesterday with both our DDs, 9 and 5 - and Mindy was there, among the rest of the New England locals :)

Nothing really phases the 5yo. She knew she could just close here eyes if needed, and she really didn't seem to phazed by it - although at one point she was holding on to DW's AND Kim's (mejkjj97) arms...at one point, I actually think she became bored with the movie, and said "Can we go home now?"

The 9yo is a bit different. She gets herself worked up before something like ToT, almost intentionally. I was more worried that she'd have trouble sleeping afterwards than watching the actual movie, but she was fine.

Everyone's kids are different, and that needs to be taken into account. Taking an entire class on a field trip I don't think is a good idea. Given that it is a PG movie, I hope they explained this and would get permission slips from all the parents at least...

Nikki - great advice from a teacher!

I was going to see this for my free birthday movie Saturday.
But I don't like scary movies and horror films.
Will I be okay with this one?

I have to say, it just looks awful. Creepy wasn't even my first concern...it just looks terrible. I dont care if it's some fancy technology, it aesthetically looks bad and why would I want to see Jim Carrey in any form?

But knowing the creepy factor might better convince my aunt not to take my goddaughter to see it. She keeps telling me "but there are so few movies she can see" as an excuse for taking her to some really bad "kids and family" movies.
