Anyone see this yet ? I hope he changes his mind

I watched the interview and he didn't specifically say that the park reservations are here to stay. He was talking about the technology integrations such as Park Pass, mobile ordering, contactless payment, and virutal queues. So yes it technically included Park Pass, I don't think that he meant Park Pass was here to stay post-pandemic.

I hope he will clarify whether the Park Pass system is here to stay. If it is, my DVC shopping days will come to a premature end.

I don't see the issue honestly. People are upset right now because AP locals are being locked out. That is because they have drastically reduced park capacity.

Think about it this way how many times in the entire year do you not get in to the park you want? Maybe 3 days? Those are the only days where park reservation would matter.

Park hopping could simply be same day queue system (again which likely would never be filled) and would give you lets say 1hr to make it to the other park before releasing your reservation. Possibly the app could verify when you board Disney transportation to lock in your reservation as they know you are on the MK bus from AK.

I see pretty much zero impact long term since I never would go when a park would be locked down anyways.

I don’t have any problem with it because it’s not that much different than fast passes in terms of determining a park for the day.

I am thinking when hopping comes back, it will be like that 4th FP...once you log out of the first park, you can book the 2nd one..

Only real issue I see with the park reservation system from a personal perspective is wanting to dine at night in Epcot if we stay at BCV or BWV. We would likely go to another park during the day, say like MK or HS, and then come back to the resort for some pool time and to get cleaned up prior to spending our evenings in World Showcase. Would hate to get locked out of that scenario in the future once the world returns to somewhat normal.

Thats how i feel it might come back. Just like using your last of your 3 Fps, at a certain time in the day it will unlock availability to switch parks and you can select where you want to go for the remainder of the day. They did say that 2021 will bring a lot more of Disney to MDE and your smart phone, i could see what you said totally a possibility

This greatly reduces the value of resorts like boardwalk where we would go to a park but always end up at Epcot to get dinner.

I also think if this stays long term, it makes wdw much less appealing for stays more than 4-5 days as well as frequent stays. It definitely makes dvc less appealing.

I believe your issue is less the existence of park reservations and more the absence of park hopping. There's a world that both can exists, and has been said, it likely wouldn't be much different we are used to by selecting a park with fastpasses.

Park hoppers will likely return because 1) they are extra revenue and 2) they push spending into parks that otherwise may be lost (like we are seeing now with people finishing their day and pillow crowds by end of day, park hopping could push the family done at AK to EPCOT).

One question is whether we'd need to reserve the second park or if it'd be a free for fall. The argument to require a second reservation is the same as the first reservation, increased predictability of crowds to staff parks appropriately. Allowing unrestricted park hopping hurts that cause. On the other hand, guest experience is improved by unrestricted hopping and allowing guests into whatever park the guests finds a last minute reservation or low attraction wait times.

Where reservations help the public the most are the busiest days of the year, like NYE. A reservation system will be great for "guaranteeing" park access on a known slammed day. The complicating factor is whether Disney reserves more spots than capacity, building in a no-show rate and then more than capacity show up. There are workarounds for this, but rabbit holes...

Park Hopping is back in 2021 as they are selling Park Hopper tickets they are not doing that without the expectation that it will be back. Now they might delay it slightly but it will be back in 2021 I have very little doubt.

Again long term even if you had to reserve a park these parks basically never get to capacity and even with lower capacity they are going to be more open to onsite/dvc guests than any other group.

This is what we used to do . So it would be really sad if we are not able to do it in the future.

Maybe they will allow you to park hop but by booking in advance? Just might take a bit more planning.

Everyone take a deep breath.

2021 tickets include a park hopper option. It would have been much easier to just not even sell it if there was even a tiny chance they don't bring back park hopping.

Also during normal times there is no use in not having park hopping and getting people to spend an extra $50-$100 each on the option.

I laughed at "everyone take a deep breath". I'm in the "panic when disney changes anything" category for sure so it hit home for me, lol.

That said after thinking about it I have to agree, I don't think park reservations long term make any sense at all. They make sense now with limited capacity. They do not make sense long term - Disney already has a good idea where you will be (FP+ bookings, ADR bookings) so there is no benefit there, and there will be no capacity issues (if there are in super busy times like Christmas they have phase closures). It would be an unnecessary restriction.
