We are considering renting a house for our trip to Disney. Has anyone used
1stfororlando? We really like a listing in Highlands Reserve. Any information about the company or neighborhood would be greatly appreciated.

I've never booked through them before, but we have stayed and are staying again in June at Regal Palms Resort which is adjacent to Highlands Reserve.

The location is about 20 minutes from Disney. I don't know if you are familiar with the area, but you would go to the end of 192 where it turns into route 27. It is probably about 3 miles further down on the right. Depending on when you go, it can be a lot of traffic to get to the parks.

The houses look nice there, but if you want to be closer to the parks, I think I would suggest Emerald Island, Windsor Hills, Windsor Palms or Terra Verde. You can see homes at all of these places at www.villadirect.com.

My one suggestion in renting a home or condo would be to book directly with an owner as opposed to a managment company. The rates will probably be less and you will get better service. Most owners want to really please their renters and will make sure that things go right for you. A management company won't care once they have your money. I've heard stories of where people go to check in and the houses are filthy or the pool heat they were promised was never turned on. Things like that.

Some other places to check for private owners would be www.cyberrentals.com and www.vrbo.com. We have used these sites for several rentals over the years all over the place and have never ever had a problem with any owners.

I hope this info is helpful to you.

Thanks so much for your input and the links. I'm going to check our your recommendations!

We rented a condo at Grand Palms last year for around $65 a night. We found it on vacationrentals.com. There are some great deals renting directly from an owner. It takes sifting through to find one that's right for you, but that's half the fun! VRBO.com has lots of listings, too.

We also stayed at Regal Palms which is adjacent to Highland Reserve. I think HeatherC is right on with her advice. I timed the drive to WDW and it took us 10 minutes from Regal Palms to get to the Sherbeth Road short cut and then an additional 5-10 minutes to get to the parks depending on which one we were going to. We kind of liked being a little further out. It really forced us to relax. We are looking in that area for our next trip too. There is a Publix at the entrance of the road that leads to Highlands Reserve. I thought their prices were pretty good. In that shopping complex was also a pizza place which we found to be okay but nothing special. We enjoyed the Chinese food restaurant there too which was surprising because we don't often find Chinese food that meets our expectations when we travel out of the northeast. There was also a brand new Applebees that wasn't open for business yet, but was soon to have their grand opening. There was a Super Wal Mart further up on 27. It took about 5 minutes to get there. Good Luck.
